Whilst Valley Striders have traditionally hosted four handicap races a year. More recently we had decided to reduce this to two. For the Brownlee Centre, this means school holidays (Easter and October). Thanks to the Otley Cycle Races, however, we managed to make a term-time booking in June and have therefore added a third handicap to the calendar. Don’t be surprised to see lots of fast juniors in the results!
After a successful trial of the parkrun barcode and timing system in April, we have continued to use this system. So, for handicap races, we will now be telling you “don’t forget your barcode”, and by that we mean the one you use for parkrun.
First across the line was Laura Hart, a very recent Couch to 5K graduate, who ran a massive PB of 30:55. Second was relatively new member Simon Wilton who ran an excellent 26:00. As we need at least three race results to provide an official handicap, then estimated handicaps were used for Laura and Simon. This meant that this year’s trophy went to Isla Robinson (U16) running a superb 26:34. Closely followed by rapidly improving Evie Kendall (U14) who won the trophy in April!
Fastest times on the night came from Ed Cheseldine in 16:52 and Dora Walmsley (U14) in 21:01.
