Training from Home

This week’s Training From Home is to take part in the Leeds Junior Clubs Virtual Race, see next section.

We will be resuming training at Leos on Tuesday 30 March followed by GSAL on 6 April.

During this last lockdown, 5 junior Striders have completed their 25th training sessions, 2 junior Striders their 50th and 3 junior Striders their 100th . Well done to all 10!  Medals will be handed out on 30 March and 6 April.

Here’s the link for the TFH information but hopefully we’ll never need to use it again!

Leeds Junior Clubs Virtual Race 20th to 29th March

Hopefully all of you are aware of this from reading the information on Facebook and/or the Club Website and/or email.  Just in case you aren’t, here’s the link to the information.

You need to choose a route that is safe and not predominantly downhill.

Then run for the same number of minutes as your age in years, recording the distance you’ve run.

You have till Sunday (28st) to do the run and you need to get your result to me by Sunday 6pm.

Between 2016 and 2019, in the summer we alternated Tuesday training between Leos and GSAL.

We have booked for this summer starting Tuesday 6 April

The page will then be updated to show who is allocated to which timeslot and which group.

There’s a summary on the website which will be maintained as new events and dates are announced

For the last 4 years (other than 2020), Valley Striders juniors have competed in the West Yorkshire Track & Field League.  Typically 10 to 12 have taken part in one or more of the meetings.

The dates this year are Saturday 17 April, Wednesday evenings 5 May, 26 May, 16 June, 7 July, Sunday 27 July and Sunday 12 September.  But, according to the website, 17 April has been cancelled and 5 May is under discussion.

The minimum age is school year 4.  Events available are sprint (75m, 80m or 100m depending on age), middle distance (600m/800m), long jump, shot put, and, for older age groups, long sprint (150m/200m), high jump, discus throw etc.

The training at GSAL allows us to practice sprints, middle distance, long jump, shot put and discus.

Eccup Junior Races

These races are at Bedquilts Playing Fields on Sunday 27 June.  In the past as many as 40 Valley Striders juniors have taken part and we hope there will be as many, if not more, in 2021.

The races are approximately 1 mile for up to school years 3 to 6 and approximately 2 miles for school years 7 to 12.  They are suitable for all abilities.  There is a “family fun run” for school years 2 and below.
