The route uses the York Heslington parkrun course (with a minor change for lap changeover) https://www.parkrun.org.uk/heslington/course

Leeds Country Way Relay -Sunday 1 September

The Leeds Country Way is a 64 mile footpath route around Leeds taking in Garforth, Stanley, Morley, Calverley, Bramhope and Scarcroft.

The Leeds Country Way Relay follows this footpath and is for teams of 12 split into 6 pairs who each run a section 9 to 12 miles in length.

We have entered 4 teams.  The Mens “A”, Ladies “A”, Vets “A” are what they say.  The 4th team will be named Valley Striders “B”.

Team captains are currently selecting the three “A” teams, but the “B” team will be on a first come first served basis, assuming we can make up pairs of fairly similar speed.  If you wish to run please sign up in the post on the VSAC Members Facebook group or email [email protected]

For more information about the event, go to the Kippax Harriers website https://kippaxharriers.org.uk/leeds-country-way/

Grand Prix 2019 (from Alan Hutchinson)

As we near the end of June and bask in the Summer sunshine (?) the Grand Prix has gone through its first 7 months with 25 runners having competed in 8 or more qualifying races and a further 17 on 6 or 7 races. Still plenty of events left to get your quota up to 8 races.

The table is currently led by Matt Hallam on 795 points adding another first place victory to his Brass Monkey success with the Guiseley Gallop. Well done Matt. He is being chased by John Hobbs on 699 points from 7 races and Gary Mann on 773. It was a very close contest in the Leeds Half Marathon with John beating Matt by 11 seconds finishing in 7 and 9th places. David Herdsman had an excellent race in the Vale of York 10 miles finishing 3rd in 56.07, 25 seconds ahead of John Hobbs 4th. David also had an excellent London Marathon race in 2 hours 36.36 ahead of Simon Midwood 2 hours 40.43 both finishing in the first 500.

Leading the other groups are
B Graham Jones
C Paul Smith
D Sam Davison
E Alan Hutchinson
F Pascale Fotherby
G Rachel Waters.

Park Runs – the Spring GP parkrun at Roundhay had 27 Striders competing. The table so far has been updated at our Grand Prix page https://www.valleystriders.org.uk/run/competition/grand-prix/ .

The second tab on this table shows all the race results that have been included (as at 14 June)

5k-10k Improvers Group (from John Hussey)

We started the 5K Complete Beginners Group in April with around 16 people and most of them achieved their aim to complete a parkrun which was fantastic. They were an awesome group running and smiling even in the pouring rain see news item https://www.valleystriders.org.uk/0-5km-complete-beginners/

We are delighted that 6 of them have now joined Valley Striders as members and are continuing training with us. The next aim is to target Wetherby 10K on 1st September and we have in place a structured training plan to help them achieve this, thank you to all at VS especially Sam Harris who have helped us put this plan in place.

Our training started last Tuesday but If anyone else would like to join us in this venture please get in contact, you would be very welcome.
