All parents of junior members should have received an email on 7 January “Valley Striders AGM Documents and Voting Form” from our “vsagmvote” email address which included a link to the Valley Striders AGM report pack https://www.valleystriders.org.uk/valley-striders-agm-2021/ . One of the reports within this pack is the annual report for V S Juniors, which is, in my opinion, worth a read. Also within the AGM pack are the annual accounts for V S Juniors which are equally important but maybe not quite so easy to read, so you will be excused if you don’t read them.
Parents were invited to vote on the proposed junior membership fees for 2022 and these were approved unanimously by those who voted.
Membership fees for juniors for the year 1 January to 31 December 2022 will be:
- Junior full membership (weekly training) £40 (no change)
- Junior limited training (10 sessions or fewer) £20 (no change). It is permissible for parents to choose this at the beginning of the year and then pay an extra £20 if/when their child has come to 10 sessions to convert to full membership.
- Juniors school year 1 and below will also be charged £20 but with no limit on sessions – there are no races accepting this age group and we offer training sessions to them when spaces permit and when ground conditions are suitable, hence the reduced rate.
- Junior social membership (no training, no competition other than parkrun) £5 (no change)
Note that any juniors who compete in West Yorkshire League and higher competition for which England Athletics affiliation is needed will need pay an additional £18 to cover the EA and Northern Athletics affiliation fees. This is not required until entering their first event .
Note that older juniors who don’t come to junior training sessions may find it cheaper to join as “Young Adults”, please email to [email protected] for information.
In the 3 years previous to last year we had included in the membership fee the entry fees to selected local races as an incentive to try these / take part. The races included in the scheme were all local and all suitable for all abilities. Unfortunately, the scheme fell apart in March 2020 when all races were cancelled and we felt obliged to return the value of these entry fees when members renewed for 2021 – £11 per person.
We still want to continue this type of incentive but have now decided to do this retrospectively if profits from the previous year allow us to do so. The method will be a discount on the following year’s membership fees.
In 2020/21 the junior section made a profit of £744 so we do have the funds to do it this year. The races selected are the Eccup Junior Races (£4) and three Peco Races (£1.50 per race for the races on 14/11/21, 05/12/21 and 19/12/21). This was mentioned in an email “Peco Races with money-back offer” sent to all parents on 22 October and also posted in our Facebook Group on 27 October https://www.facebook.com/groups/369749209844475/posts/2055616567924389/ . Note also that entry fees for the Golden Acre Relay were paid by the club at time of entry, so those members who took part in all 5 have had “free” entries worth £10.
Please see the table at the foot of this page to find out how much discount you are entitled to for your race entries. Note that new members who joined after 1 November 2021 are not eligible as they only paid a small fee.
As there were fewer races than normal and the club is keen to encourage participation, there is one further discount available, which is for having taken part in parkruns and/or junior parkruns. The discount is either £1 or £2. To be able to claim one of these discounts you must be registered with parkrun with club name Valley Striders AC (if you aren’t currently listed on parkrun as Valley Striders AC, you have until 28 February to do so). If you’ve run at least 1 parkrun and/or junior parkrun since they recommenced in May 2021 you can claim £1 discount. If you’ve run at least 10 parkruns and/or junior parkruns since they recommenced in May 2021 you can claim £2 discount. And just to clarify – it isn’t necessary that you were listed as VSAC when you ran your parkrun(s) but you must be registered as VSAC by 28/02/2022.
For example, if you are going to renew as a Junior Full Member (£40) and ran Eccup, the three Pecos in 2021 and more than 10 junior parkruns, you can claim £10.50 discount and so pay £29.50.
Depending on which membership option you choose, please pay £40 (full member) less any discounts or £20 (limited member) less any discounts or £5 (social member, no discounts) to the “VSAC Membership” Account number 72143878 Sort code 53-70-00 as soon as possible. Please put your name in the reference. (Note that if your bank performs payee name checks, then the account name above may come up as “VALLEY STRIDERS ATHLETICS CLUB”.)

Junior membership discounts January 2022
You may deduct this from the membership fee if you are renewing as a Junior Member or Junior Limited Training Member (but not for any other category e.g. Young Adult or Junior Social).Note that members who joined the club after 1 November 2021 are not eligible as they only paid a very small fee!
There are also discounts if you have run junior parkrun or parkrun between June 2021 and 31 January 2022 - please see the paragraph on the webpage for full details.
