Our twice weekly Couch to 5K group is designed for those that are completely new to running, have limited running experience or are starting from level 0 after a long break.  Our sessions can be done in conjunction with the NHS couch to 5K app, so you can keep going even if you miss a session. The course is 9 weeks long and is designed to get you moving, increase your fitness and build your confidence. The course will culminate in an optional 5k parkrun to celebrate your achievement and progress. Sessions are led by friendly qualified run leaders and supported by tail runners to ensure nobody is left behind.

To hear how last year’s participants felt about the course, keep reading. We hope you’ll join us soon.

What was the best thing about the course?

That we managed to complete it together. The leaders offered amazing support and advice. The group was friendly and encouraging.

Seeing and feeling the benefits of running. Also meeting lots of new people and being part of a running group.

Commitment each week.

Everything!!! It may seem a little OTT but it really was mind/ life changing. To always think that you can’t do something and then with the help of the group discover that you can. It has been something to feel really proud of and part of. I am so grateful to Jillian & Sam who gave their time to make this happen.

Running with a group of people of a similar running level, very supportive leader and back runner.

Meeting new people all working towards the same goal at the end.

50/50 between the people involved and having a programme to follow with a clear goal… all of which was fun and achievable.

Completing a 5k, having never run before. Everyone was very encouraging and nice. I really enjoyed coming.

Friendliness of everyone when challenged.

Support from the run leaders and the other Striders and the rest of the group.

Runs spread out across the week. The people in the group.

Group feel. Mutual support.

What kept you coming back week after week?

The support of the course leaders and others in the group.

I could see the benefits to my health almost immediately. The leaders and group were so friendly, motivating and encouraging.

Goal to run the 5k.

The desire to get fit. The thought that it was now or never! I enjoyed being part of a group of people all in the same boat. I didn’t feel embarrassed at any stage.

Running with a friendly group of people, being held accountable to others and wanting to improve my fitness and running goals.

Friendly group of people to run with. The support for the end goal.

The group were super friendly, and I feel like I’ve made some friends already. Having a set plan /program kept me focused and consistent. The fact it was so close to home was a huge win…. the coaches were ok too 😉

Being part of a group.

The enthusiasm and support of leaders.

Friendly group and well led runs.

Group & leader support. Help with pacing.

The people.

Being part of an encouraging group.
