Training

Our faster group is suitable for those who can run 5K in under 19 minutes. We meet every Tuesday at 6.15pm on Ancaster Road. Full details can be found on Spond.

Anyone faster than 30 minutes for 5k is welcome to join this group at 6:30 on a Tuesday.  Sessions take place on well-lit, residential streets in winter, moving to Eccup Reservoir, the Meanwood Valley and Roundhay Park in summer.  Usual meeting points are shown in the table below. However, please check Spond for confirmation.

We run a variety of interval sessions with one hill session and one track session a month, all including a warm up from the meeting point and around half an hour of efforts.

  • On the 2nd Tuesday of the month, there is also an optional track session available at Becketts Park (Carnegie) Athletics Track. This starts at 7.15pm.

Our improvers sessions, aimed at anyone running 5km in less than 40 minutes, are at 6pm on a Tuesday.  The training sessions have a social bias and are suitable for a wide range of abilities. Most of the session is comprised of short bursts which means you can easily miss some out when needed and re-join as you feel able to. You would not be left out or feel under any pressure!

We offer Couch to 5K groups for complete beginners, inexperienced runners and those returning after a long break. This is a 9-week course led by friendly qualified run leaders, designed to get you moving, increase your fitness and build your confidence in an inclusive and judgement-free environment. Once a month, a fell-specific training session is held as an alternative to the regular Tuesday session. We usually try and do this on the 3rd Tuesday of the month to coincide with the monthly social at Leo’s.  Click below to find out what you can expect from these sessions.
