Just to apologise in advance if I’m not replying to emails and messages as fast as usual in the next 10 days. I’m helping with entry checking and information for the first Leeds Schools race on 7 November and for the first Peco race on 8 November so this and next week are very busy for me.

Not the mile and 5k races at Bodington on 27 October
Plan A was to have a mile for all juniors and 5k for juniors 11 and older and adults
There had been a problem with the booking and we didn’t have dedicated use of the whole track; potentially we would be sharing it with cyclists. The 5k race was cancelled (most adults were contacted via the Spond system that juniors don’t use.
Plan B was to run a mile race for all juniors using two loops of the flat half of the cycle circuit. Everyone to start at 7:15pm (this would be OK for the older juniors who had planned to run 5k as they were supposed to book in between 6:50pm and 7:20pm)
We had problems measuring the track to get 1 Mile. Ian Richards (Harry’s dad) organses international race walking events at Bodington on a 750m circuit on the flat loop …
Plan C was two loops of Ian’s circit for a 1500 metre race for all juniors which actually started at 7:25pm
A big thank you to those who helped –
- Ian for the idea of the 750m lap and for marshalling the turn point
- Sam and Graham on timekeeping
- John K & Tom D on funnel marshal
- Jason and Carol on disc “tokens”
- Nic and Nikki on recording
- Alice as back-marker
- anyone else I missed
- everyone for being so patient while we went from plan A to plan B to plan C
NB ages on race day because the plan was that anyone aged 11 on race day would be eligible for the 5k race (UKA rules)
Medals to top 3 boys and girls aged 11 and over and to top 3 boys and girls not yet 11.
I will get medals ASAP to those listed who didn’t receive them on the night.
