All training is cancelled and we hope that most junior Striders will take part in the Golden Acre Relay.  Last year we had over 30 teams each of 3 runners.

Junior Relay (school years 2 to 7)

The junior relay starts at 6:30pm.  There are categories for younger juniors (all team members in years 2 to 4) and older juniors (all team members in years 2 to 7, i.e. a younger junior can run in an older team but not vice versa).  Within these age groups there are teams for boys, girls and mixed.

There will be over 70 teams in total and my advice is that the best team combination is 3 children who know each other so that runner number 2 recognises their runner number 1 as they approach the handover point etc.

The club will make and pay for all entries.  All I need to know for each team is the names of the children, their running order, and their team name.

I’ve set up a Facebook post for this

https://www.facebook.com/groups/369749209844475/posts/3493269440825754

Please use this to let me know your teams; or if you are 2 needing 1 more for a team or 1 needing 2 more for a team, use this to get matched up.

Please also use this post to ask any questions – it is likely that the question you ask is of interest to others.

I’ve set a deadline of 16 June to get your teams together and I will make the entries.  After that it will still be possible to form teams, I just want to get as many teams in place as soon as possible.

Adult Relay (including category for juniors school years 8 to 12)

The adult relay starts at 7:00pm.  There are two categories for years 8 to 12 – one is all girls and the other “open” (i.e. all boys or mixed).

Here’s the Facebook post for this

It works the same way as the junior relay BUT THIS RACE QUICKLY SELLS OUT, IT IS POSSIBLE THAT IT WILL SELL OUT BEFORE THE END OF MAY.  At time of writing 55 of the 150 places had been taken.

Apologies, we were very short of safety leaders and activity leaders at GSAL last Tuesday (12th).  The effect was that some groups got started quickly and others had a delayed start, and the knock-on effect was that there were queues for activities.

We’ll aim to run to a strict schedule in future weeks when it’s term time at GSAL

  • 5:50 – 6:10 leaders get through the barriers, park, walk and then set up activities
  • By 6:10 everyone else must have arrived
  • 6:10 – 6:15 announcements and allocation to groups
  • 6:15 – 6:20 warm up in groups
  • 6:20 – 6:30 first activity
  • 6:30, 6:40, 6:50, 7:00 other activities
  • 7:10 – 7:15 cool down stretches then go home
  • 7:15 – 8:00 extra practice for those taking part in athletics competitions

NB in GSAL holidays we have access at 5:30 but my plan is to have a leisurely set-up and then start at 6:00 with a timetable that is 10 minutes ahead of the term-time list.

Training at GSAL on Tuesday 26 May

This is school holiday week but a lot of you have requested to come – that’s great.  We seem to have enough safety leaders but not enough activity leaders.

I’m looking for 5 volunteers for field events

  • One for shot put – previous experience of shot putting IS necessary
  • Four for long jump – 2 pairs at each pit – previous experience of long jumping not necessary, but experience of watching our long jumping at GSAL is.
  • Please email [email protected] if you can help

Leaders please arrive any time from 5:30 onwards; everyone else arrive by 6:00.

  • 2 June and 16 June at Leos (C group and Girls A group see Whatsapp)
  • 9 June and 23 June at GSAL (C group at Beckett)
  • I’ll publish a booking form later this week

Tuesday 30 June – everyone at Bodington Cycle Circuit

  • More details to follow

There is also a fun run at 09:45 for younger than year 3 (enter on the day).

The junior races and the fun run are on our list of “Recommended Races” and those who take part will have their entry fee refunded as a cashback on next year’s club membership fee.  (NB this doesn’t apply to C group)

Eccup 10 and 5 mile road races

The junior races are held in conjunction with the Eccup 10 road race which starts at 09:30.  This year there is also an Eccup 5 and those aged 15 and older are eligible to enter the 5 mile (17 and older for the 10 mile).  Enter via the Racebest website.

England Athletics affiliation is required for the 10 and 5 mile races, you’ll find details in my previous email to parents https://www.valleystriders.org.uk/email-to-parents-5-april-2026/
