Running races not cycling races!
30 June 2026 at Bodington (Brownlee Cycle Circuit)
All training has been cancelled.
The club have booked the whole Cycle Circuit from 7pm to 8:30pm for two races.
General information about the Brownlee Centre is here
https://sport.leeds.ac.uk/bodington-cycle-circuit
Postcode is LS16 8NA. There is plenty of parking.
NB For those aged between 11 and 17 you have a choice of races (but not to run both)
1 mile race at 7pm available for ages 17 and younger
- For all juniors aged 6 to 17
- Guests welcome if notified in advance to [email protected]
- Please arrive from 6:45 onwards. (Don’t go on to the track if it is in use)
- There is no need to register
- Start and finish near the footbridge.
- You’ll be called to the start line about 7 pm.
- For safety reasons there will be 3 pens
- school year 7 and older … and also younger runners with junior parkrun PB under 8 mins or adult parkrun PB under 22 mins
- school year 5 and older … and also younger runners with junior parkrun PB under 10 mins or adult parkrun PB under 26 mins
- school year 4 and younger
- All start together soon after 7pm.
- 1 mile is exactly one lap of the track (you’ll be running anti-clockwise)
- When you cross the line, keep in order and keep walking.
- Soon after the finish line you’ll get a tag with your finishing position (like parkrun)
- Further down after getting a tag will be the finish recorders – hand in your tag and tell them your name.
- If any parents who are watching are able to help with keeping people in order at the finish funnel until they have received their finish tag, the help will be very gratefully received.
There will be some presentations to juniors at about 7:20pm (not medals!!)
- The award winners span a wide range of ages so stay for these – it may be you!
5km handicap race at 7:30pm for ages 11 and older including adults
- Please bring your parkrun barcode if you have one.
- Guests welcome if notified in advance to [email protected]
- This is a handicap race, the slowest runner will start first, the fastest will start last and hopefully everyone will finish at around the same time.
- Please arrive from 6:45pm onwards
- Registration will take place between 6.50pm and 7.20pm.
- To register:
- Find your name on the A-Z list located under the bridge. Make a note of your handicap time.
- Go to the registration desk, and let them know your name and handicap time.
- If you’re not on the list, let the registration desk know an estimated time for parkrun and they will calculate a start time for you.
- At 7:25 everyone will go the start line. It’s a 2 minute walk from the bridge.
- The race will start at 7.30pm.
- Note that there may not be a runner setting off at 7:30pm, you just need to be aware when the race has started.
- To run:
- Listen for when the race starts. If your handicap time is x minutes, you will start x minutes after the race starts.
- When finishing:
- Please stay in order in the finish funnel until you have been given your finish token.
- Once you have your finish token, take it and your parkrun barcode to one of the scanners. We will be using the parkrun system.
- If you forget your barcode, please give your name and finish position to one of the recorders.
- If any parents who are watching are able to help with keeping people in order at the finish funnel until they have received their finish token, the help will be very gratefully received. We can get a lot of runners finishing very close together, and they tend to be a bit confused and disorientated after running a hard 5K.
There is a post in the Valley Striders Juniors Facebook Group for discussions and/or to ask questions and so may have additional information.
