TRAINING
Booking for July
Is now open
https://www.valleystriders.org.uk/booking-junior-training-sessions/
Training at GSAL (not on 24 June)
Sorry for another delay – GSAL had already taken a booking from another organisation for 24 June.
Our first “big” session at GSAL will be Tuesday 8 July although the “C” group will be there on 1 July.
Please note also that GSAL have put in place some terms & conditions regarding safety and safeguarding. It is important that all parents read https://www.valleystriders.org.uk/juniors-training-at-gsal-2025/ and do this a few days before the session, not just as you’re setting off for GSAL on 1st or 8th . NB I know that when you filled in the booking form for June and/or July you ticked the box to say you read it, but I can’t believe you all did!
EVENTS IN GENERAL
I’ve updated https://www.valleystriders.org.uk/events-for-juniors-spring-summer-2025/ with a few more events for summer and with results of events since March. Please email [email protected] with anything I’ve missed. This has a link to Autumn/Winter 2024/25 where I’ve caught up with the results from the end of the cross country season. Email as above for anything I’ve missed.
LOCAL EVENTS IN JULY
There is a new small event at Beckett Park on the evening of Thursday 3 July 6pm to 8pm with 600m, 800m, javelin and shot for ages 8 and above. Entries are still open but numbers are limited. (it would have been useful if we had had a session or two at GSAL beforehand!). Here’s the information from Ian Richards

There are two local running events in July that we recommend as being suitable for all members who are school year 2 and above.
Prospective members who have come to at least one training session in 2025 are welcome to take part in both.
Sunday 6 July at 09:00 – “Eccup” junior races
Held at Bedquilts Playing Fields in Adel. Nearest postcode for access on the day is LS16 8BY (these are the houses opposite the entrance). This is a “free” event in that juniors who run will get £4 refunded in their 2026 membership fee.
- Cost is £4 to enter in advance. https://racebest.com/races/tq9xa , (£1 extra for entries on the day)
- One mile for school years 3 to 6, 2 miles for school years 7-12.
- If I remember correctly, the 2 mile race starts at 09:00 and the 1 mile at 09:02
- Also a family fun run for school years 2 and younger – enter on the day (starts at 09:45). Cost is £3.
- 32 junior Striders ran last year
Tuesday 15 July – Golden Acre Park Relays.
This is a “free” event – we will pay for all entries.
I’ve posted on Facebook and on the website. For the time being, the Facebook version will be the authoritative version; I’ll update the website less frequently.

Last year we had 25 teams in the Y2-7 relay and 6 teams in the Y8-12 relay.
The year 8-12 category has now sold out.
At time of writing we have 21 teams for the Y2-7 relay and 10 teams for the Y8-12 relay.
If you’re in the year 2-7 category and want to take part, please request a place ASAP via the Facebook post. I am going to enter all our teams (so far) on Wednesday 25 June.
And I would very much appreciate it if those teams who haven’t decided on a team name and/or running order do so by Tuesday 24 June.
You risk missing out if you reply after 24 June.
