More than 35 V S Juniors will be representing Leeds at the West Yorks Primary Schools XC

The Leeds Primary Schools XC races were held at Temple Newsam on Thursday 13 February

There were 8 races – year 3 girls, year 3 boys, etc to year 6 boys

Children had qualified for this event by doing well at one of 5 local events before Christmas (most V S members had run at Roundhay High School). A few children that had been unable to attend a local event (either because their school hadn’t entered or because they were ill on the day) were added based on results at Leeds Schools Saturday League or Peco XC.

From this event, children then qualified for the the West Yorkshire Primary Schools XC Races which will be held at Temple Newsam on Thursday 6 March when teams from Leeds will be competing against teams from Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield. Each city will have 35 runners at each of the 8 races, that will be 1,400 runners attending!

The qualifying rules at Leeds from each of the 8 races were

  • top 5 schools (5 per school to run, 4 to count)
  • best 10 individuals not including any who were in top 5 schools but must have finished in top 15 individuals.

At the West Yorkshire races, there will be awards for the top 3 schools and also the top 12 runners in years 4/5/6 qualify to represent West Yorkshire at the National Final at Stoneleigh Park (NB change of venue) on Saturday 22 March.

Note that individual entries, including year 3, are allowed for the National Final (contact me for details) but additional entries are not allowed for the West Yorkshire Races.
