Junior Training Sessions

Our juniors train every Tuesday evening 6pm to 7pm.

  • In the winter we train under floodlights on the rugby pitches at Leodiensian Club (Leos) off King Lane, LS17 5PR.
  • In the summer, we alternate between the rugby fields and footpaths at Leos, and the athletics track at Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL).  The weeks for GSAL are usually the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays in the month but will be confirmed on our calendar.

We split into groups based on age and experience, all groups starting with a warm-up and finishing with a cool down and stretches. Sessions involve an activity with short bursts of speed and an activity with longer periods of running.  At Leos, the third activity is usually a game; at GSAL the third activity will be a field event, usually long jumping.  Don’t worry, we have more periods of rest than running and we explain the field events, it’s not a competition.

Occasionally there are other events that replace the junior session e.g. on three Tuesdays we have a mile race at Eccup Reservoir or at GSAL track. Check the website calendar for venues.

After many of the Tuesday sessions at Leos we have food with 3 menu choices including one vegetarian option.

We also have a session on Friday evenings at 7pm at Beckett Park track.  This session is only for experienced runners and costs £3 per night payable to the University at reception.  Please email [email protected] for details.

From the ages of 13 and above, juniors who are focussing on endurance running rather than sprints and/or field events may find better training with one of our adult groups. We have a “Young Adults Policy” for under-18’s training with adult groups which you can find here.
