Training at Leos and GSAL
Training will now alternate between Leos and GSAL with the final GSAL session on 8 September.
I’m planning to organise a “Sports Day” on 8 September where everyone will get timed runs for 80 metres and 400 metres and measured long jumps and howler javelin throw. More details to follow.
The sessions at Leos on 18 August and 1 September will be “open days” – if you have friends who’d like to try a training session with us then please get them to email [email protected] (and mention your name).
P.S. don’t forget to fill in your booking form for August if you’ve not already done so.

There is a full list of events available for all age groups on their website http://www.westyorkshireathletics.org.uk/wyl26index.htm
It is a good opportunity to try track & field meetings, and if you like them, then you’ll know what to expect next April when the season resumes.
The total cost is £20 but this must be paid before 12 August to the VSAC Payments Account (last 2 digits are 51).
NB England Athletics affiliation is needed – pay £25 to the VSAC Membership Account (last 2 digits are 78) – this will be valid to 31 March 2027 so for the entirety of the cross country season.
Track and field meeting at Heslingon, York on Sunday 16 August – minimum age old school year 5
See https://www.valleystriders.org.uk/events-for-juniors-spring-summer-2026/ for events and entry details.
Again a good opportunity for newbies to try a track & field meeting and be “ready” for next year.
Golden Mile races at Beckett Park on Saturday 22 August – minimum age 8 on race day
A mile is 9 metres plus 4 laps of the track (but you’ll know that if you watched Josh Kerr break the world record)
See https://www.valleystriders.org.uk/events-for-juniors-spring-summer-2026/
Separate races for ages 8-11, 12-16 and older. 11 VS juniors competed in 2025.
