Heading Valley Striders Juniors email
  • Results from LSSA XC, Peco XC and WY XC
  • Training on 18 November – on the cycle path again

You’ll find the VS results from LSSA, Peco and WYXC  at
https://www.valleystriders.org.uk/events-for-juniors-autumn-winter-2025-26/

If I’ve missed your name from any results, please email [email protected].  I’m particularly thinking of the LSSA results where I’ve had to look through over 700 names.

LSSA XC

At LSSA meeting 1 at Cardinal Heenan on 8 November I was able to identify 59 VS junior members and 10 junior athletes who have lapsed from VS membership or who are on the waiting lists.  You’ll find full results here
https://leedsschoolssports.co.uk/lsaa-cross-country-league-2025-26/

Next meeting is 29 November at Woodhouse Grove. Entries only via your school

Peco XC

At Peco meeting 1 at Middleton Park on 9 November there were 26 VS juniors in the 1 mile race and 15 in the 2 mile.

You’ll find full results here https://pecoxc.co.uk/pages/race1.html

Next meeting is 14 December at Pontefract Park.  Entries at https://racebest.com/races/suxct

West Yorkshire XC

At West Yorkshire meeting 2 at Wakefield on 16 November there were 24 VS juniors (which I’m sure is the most that have ever run in one of these meetings).

Teams finished U11G 3rd, U11B 2nd, U13G 3rd, U13B 5th.   In meeting 1 all teams had finished 3rd so all are well placed for team medals.

You’ll find full results here
http://www.westyorkshireathletics.org.uk/wyxcl25index.htm

Next meeting is 7 December at Rothwell. Entries at
https://www.race-results.co.uk/onlineentries/user/login.php?raceid=5910

And if you’re wondering how all these three competitions inter-link, then they don’t, but some competitions do interlink, take a look at

Training at Leos on 18 November

(NB no change for C group at Bodington)

Last week we trained on the Cycle Path at Alwoodley Green because the rugby pitch at Leos was so wet.

We were overbooked and there were 16 children not offered places (selected simply on the basis of most recently joined).

Due to several cancellations I was able to offer many of these 16 a place but it was quite late notice and most had made other arrangements.  In the end we had 19 at 4:45, 14 at 5:25 and 13 at 6:10, so there was some spare capacity based on a maximum of 18 per timeslot.

You’ll not be surprised that, after last week’s heavy rain, we’ll be back on the Cycle Path this week too.

The selection rule this week is

·       Those who didn’t get an offer of a place last week

·       Those who have done at least one of LSSA XC, Peco XC and WYXC this autumn

Even with this rule, we are still overbooked but with a few cancellations we should be somewhere near our ideal maximum of 18 per session.

Those who did come last week will know that although there is some light from the street lights it is quite dark.  The major risk is children running into each other, especially when using both sides of the cycle track.  It is therefore essential that everyone wears a light top – white, yellow or a pale colour.

Also, please meet in the changing rooms at Leos, not in the car park on King Lane.  This will allow me to organise the session and for adults to volunteer for roles.

Late Monday morning I will publish names on the website. And then do a Facebook post and another email.

Don’t assume that if you booked via the booking form you will get a place.

And, having been offered a place, if you’re unable to come please give as much notice as possible so others can be invited.  If you don’t come and haven’t notified us 1 hour before your slot, you won’t get a place next week.
