Sunday 9 August – Round Hill Fell Race

This Sunday is the Round Hill Fell Race and it scores triple points – V S Grand Prix, V S Fell Championship and Leeds Race Series.  See http://otleyac.org.uk/round-hill-fell-race/  for race details.  Those of you that did Ilkley Trail earlier in the year will know that the slopes on the north side of Otley/Ilkley are less steep than those on the south side (Otley Chevin and Ilkley Moor).  I note that the race entry fee has gone up 66% this year, it is now £5!!!  Sorry, I should have reminded you about this earlier.

Tuesday 11 August - Training

It’s the second Tuesday in the month and we’re back to the normal schedule, so the 6pm groups will be at Grammar School at Leeds and the 7pm groups will be at Leeds Beckett University Headingley.  For more details see the home page at www.valleystriders.org.uk (the training section in bright green)

Saturday 15 August – Roundhay parkrun

I think there are still a couple of marshalling positions and 3 or 4 pacing times available, please email Alex.  And if all the volunteering positions are full, then just come and run!

Use Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/291402584033/   or email Alex [email protected] or go to the “Future roster” page http://www.parkrun.org.uk/roundhay/futureroster/

Tuesday 18 August – Pie and Peas

Normal summer training sessions, followed by pie and peas, usual arrangements apply, email [email protected] (for 7:15pm) [email protected] (for 8:30pm) choosing meat or veggie pie, peas or baked beans.  Ice creams will also be available (no need to book).  Book food by 10pm Sunday 16 August.

Leeds Country Way – Sunday 6 September

We ended up with 66 names, and as, in the last week, we lost more than we gained, we have decided only to have 5 teams, therefore there are 6 reserves.

The basis of selection was that everyone who put their name forward by the cut-off date (26 July) got a place.  Note that last year more than 10 dropped out, which means reserves have a very good chance of taking part.

Emails have now gone out this evening to everyone who put their names forward.  If you put your name forward and have not received an email, let me know ASAP.  The emails are by leg rather than by team, so that recces can be organised.  Most recce runs will be added as events in the Valley Striders Facebook group, and anyone is welcome to join in.

Teams are on the website www.valleystriders.org.uk/vsteams.htm .  We’re still taking names, so if you’d like to be added to the reserves list, please email [email protected]

Harewood Trail Races and Junior Race – Sunday 8 November

Planning is well under way, and we will have entry forms, flyers and online entry by the end of August.

If you’re available to help on the day, please email [email protected]

If you can also help before the day, either with flyers (handing out and/or putting on car windscreens and/or taking to schools, gyms, running shops etc), or helping lead a small team of marshals, please mention this when you email the “help” account.

Thank you!

West Yorkshire Cross Country

Please put these dates in your diary – Sunday 18 October at Wakefield, Saturday 31 October at Huddersfield, 14 or 15 November at Keighley and Sunday 6 December at Nunroyd, Guiseley.  Thanks to Jerry Watson for this information.
