SPORTS DAY
a.k.a. Valley Striders Juniors Track & Field Championships.
90 have requested to come to GSAL, this is too many to fit in, so sorry, there won’t be places for the 11 non-members i.e. triallists and those on the waiting list.
Of the 79, 7 have requested 7pm only … I hope you can come at 6pm (or come as early as possible)
We will have 6 groups and 4 activities (80m, 400m, long jump, shot). There will be 2 sets of relays set up to keep the groups occupied when they don’t have a scheduled activity.
School years 2-4 won’t be doing shot put … and I have planned the timetable so they are the first to leave.
The timetable below allows for 12 minutes per activity and has been planned to finish by 7:30 except for boys and girls year 6 who will have an extra 80m race “final” because there are more than 8 in their group (if 8 or fewer turn up, there won’t be a need for a final)
If the weather is bright, then we can extend the allowance for each activity by a minute or two.

I’m still requesting that each adult is responsible for no more than 2 children if from different families. If you want to bring more than two, then please ask.
Please note later start time as for GSAL it is a normal week.
YOU MAY NOT COME ON SITE TILL 5:50PM. NOT EVEN QUEUEING ON THE MAIN DRIVE!
From the main entrance, keep in the left hand lane and turn left at the barrier. (Press the green button to raise the barrier).
Drive past the cricket pavilion and turn right. Almost immediately turn left into the staff car park. Drive as far as possible down the car park.
Please note: You MUST NOT go past the mini-roundabout in your car.
From the car park, walk in the same direction to the mini-roundabout and turn right. (Beware of traffic and contractor’s vehicles). Continue past the stores on the left and then you’ll see an uphill path which leads to the athletics field.
Please note: You MUST accompany your child(ren) to the athletics field. You MUST NOT let them run ahead.
SPECIAL MESSAGES FOR THIS WEEK
We will need help to set up all the activities, please come across as soon as you arrive to see how you can help.
Parents then please register with the group leader as we need to know where you are in case of emergency; also wait to see if you are needed to help with the activities. Most parents will stay with “their” group and help with activities as needed.
We will need TWO leaders (one leader, one assistant) for each group because of the numbers and when we do long jump we will split each group into two.
Tasks for activities (please volunteer)
- sprinting – allocating runners to races, starting, judging 1-2-3, timekeeping, recording
- long-jumping (2 teams) – runway control, checking for no-jump, marking landing point, raking the sand
- laps – running (including back-marker), timing, keeping finishers in order, recording
- shot – keeping athletes safe, calling up to putt, assistance with style, measuring, retrieving shots
