Well done everyone who ran the Meanwood Trail Junior Race or the Senior Race on Saturday 16 May!
The storms overnight Friday put a few people off but conditions were better than feared.
A record 100 juniors ran in the 1 mile or 2 mile race.
The number of senior finishers, 342, was our second highest ever.
Hope you are back for the Harewood Trail Races on Sunday 4 October (entry forms on our website soon)
and/or next year's Meanwood Races.

Meanwood Valley Trail Race and Junior Races
(permit applied for)
The (approximately) 7½ mile off road race for seniors (17 and over), together with 2 mile and 1 mile junior races, are organised by Valley Striders, and held in support of Lineham Farm Children's Centre, Eccup, near Leeds, which gives deserving local children a unique, rewarding and memorable holiday in the country.
The 14th Meanwood Valley Trail Race will be held on Saturday 16 May 2009, starting at 10:30.
For the 6th time, there will also be a Junior Race and this will start at 10:00.
The distance for the junior race is 1 mile for 7-10 years old and 2 miles for 11-16 years old.
Note that in 2007 the Senior Race filled 3 days before the race and no entries were allowed on the day.

Meanwood Trail Race - 12 April 2003

The Meanwood Trail 2003 was the 2nd event in the Airedale Triple Trail series, the other 2 races being
Baildon Boundary Way on Sunday 6 April
Guiseley Gallop on (Easter) Sunday 20 April
Meanwood Trail 2003 Statistics
  • There were 325 finishers, a record by 46.
  • Of these, 36 had also run it at least 3 times previously. Either they like the race or they like the beer! (or both!).
  • Paul Briscoe is the only ever-present, but Peter Bates, Chris & Kath Drake, Hilary Lane and Derek Martin have each only missed one race.
  • Leading clubs represented were Ilkley H (25 runners), Pudsey P (17), Abbey R (14), Horsforth H (12) and Kirkstall H (10).
  • Over £850 was raised for Lineham Farm in 2003, bringing the total for four years to just over £2000. Thank you!

Airedale Triple Trail 2003 Statistics

  • 61 runners completed the Triple Trail in 2003, up from 35 in 2002.
  • 9 of these runners - Mark Turrell, Kath Drake, Andrew Cutts, Tim Broomfield, Mark Hetherington, John Hutchinson, David Spink, Peter Hey and Andrew Wright are now double Triple-Trail-ers.
  • All 61 runners who ran all 3 races received a certificate showing their performance in each race and overall.

2002

All profits went to Lineham Farm Children's Centre, Eccup, which provides week-long holidays for disabled and disadvantaged children.
Over £500 was raised for Lineham Farm. This brought to over £1200 the money raised for Lineham Farm over the last three years. THANK YOU!

The Meanwood Valley Trail was the first of a 3 race series
the Airedale Triple Trail Challenge, the other races being

Meanwood Valley Trail 6th race - 30 June 2001

The 6th race, due to take place on Saturday 24 March 2001,
 actually took place on Saturday 30 June 2001.

We had 257 pre-entries and took 118 entries on the day
Of the 375 entries, 90 were no-shows who had entered prior to 30 March. As stated on the letter sent out in April, their entire entry fee was donated to Lineham Farm - a total of £324 less admin costs of £22.
For the other 285 entries, 50p was donated to Lineham Farm - a total of £142.50
In addition there were donations of £76 sent in with the entries and £32 collected on the day
 In total, £552.50 was donated to Lineham Farm

The Meanwood Valley Trail was due to be the first of a 3 race series
the Airedale Triple Trail Challenge.
The Baildon Boundary Way due to be on 1st April was cancelled.
The Guiseley Gallop was run on 15th April on an alternative course in Nunroyd Park.

March 2001
Regarding the 24th March, the Emergency Regulations had closed all Public Rights of Way in Adel Woods. There were potential alternative routes using other trails in the woods but these were not as wide. Taking into consideration the recent declaration of Foot and Mouth in West Yorkshire and the likelihood that restrictions would increase rather than decrease we decided to postpone the race.
Numbers already issued would be valid for the revised date. Click here for arrangements if you have already entered. (this letter was sent out to all entrants on Wed 14 March). Entries 203-367 were received up to and including 24 March. All numbers have now been sent out including those marked "collect on day". These runners have been contacted with information about the revised date and arrangements. Entries commencing 368 arrived during May and June.

June 2001
We now have approval from Leeds City Council Public Rights of Way Dept, West Yorkshire Police,
and North of England A A (permit 200124).
In view of the recent outbreak of Foot & Mouth disease at Middleton, near Ilkley, only 10 miles from our race, you should re-check nearer the date that the race is still on.
