Just a brief note here to apologise to all runners who had put 10 October in their diaries.
We have not taken this decision lightly, you can imagine the amount of extra organisation that we will need to do! When we plan a race, we take into consideration what other races are on the same date. - In particular we try not to clash with the West Yorkshire Cross Country League because (a) many of their runners, both seniors and juniors, usually run our race (b) many Valley Striders run in the league, and we won a trophy there last year. - We usually hold our race the first Sunday in October. - The first race in WYXC was originally planned for 3 October, so we set our race for 10 October. - The entry schedule for WYXC has now been published, and the first date is 10 October. - This and the fact that there are also several other races on 10 October has persuaded us to move to 3rd. We hope that 7 weeks notice will be sufficient time to make everyone aware of the new date. If you are looking for a race on 10 October, you could try - Shaun Lee Johnstone 10 mile at Boroughbridge (adults) - Bramham Park 10k & 5k (adults and juniors) - West Yorks Cross Country League (adults and juniors - club members only) - Yorkshire Veterans race at Skipton (over 35's only - club members only) |

These races, promoted by Valley
Striders, are in support of Lineham Farm Children's Centre, Eccup, near Leeds AND, for 2009/2010, the profits are shared with Yorkshire Air Ambulance
In 2008, one of our runners suffered a heart attack near to the 8 mile point which was inaccessible to the St John Ambulance 4 by 4. They called out the Yorks Air Ambulance helicopter who took him to Harrogate Hospital, where he was in intensive care for several days. We are glad to report that he made a full recovery and he ran our 2 mile race in 2009. For this reason, this year we have decided again to donate half our race profits to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. |

Dave emailed after the race in 2009 "I've downloaded the data from my polar and I thought you might be interested in the altitude graph it produced for possible inclusion on the website. .Of course the profile is skewed by my speed (time on the x-axis) rather than distance but the mile markers give you an idea. I'm also sure actual altitude isn't right but the diffference in altitude should be accurate enough!" |

Last year, one of our runners suffered a heart attack near to the 8 mile point which was inaccessible to the St John Ambulance 4 by 4. They called out the Yorks Air Ambulance helicopter who took him to Harrogate Hospital, where he was in intensive care for several days. We are glad to hear that he made a full recovery and he hopes to be back with our races in 2009, although he's not decided as yet whether to run the 10 mile or 2 mile race. For this reason, this year we have decided to donate half our race profits to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. There were 179 finishers in the 2 mile race and 609 in the 10 mile. Both of these are records!
Congratulations to the winners Mathew Jackson (Warrington AC) 11:13 (course record) and Katherine Coupland (Harrogate H) 13:54 Alan Stimpson (Harrogate H) 56:15 and Catherine Scott (Wigton RR) 68:28 Apologies to those of you in the 10 mile for the queues for the gates - this is the first time the gates have not been opened - we will ensure this does not happen next year. Apologies to those of you coming late to the refreshments - we ran out of milk - we will ensure this does not happen next year. We hope the injured runners have all recovered and are back to full training now. Thank you to everyone who entered - we hope you all enjoyed the race and will come back next year (but don't tell too many friends about it). If you have any comments about the race please email them to us. If you click this link the email address will appear. And finally, to any Valley Striders and St Leonard's Hospice volunteers reading this, THANK YOU! Bob |
