Juniors Training Session on Friday 4 January

Meet by Lakeside Cafe at 10:00. Juniors on waiting list are welcome to come. Juniors aged 5 to 8 must have parents running with them. Those aged 12 and above may be asked to help with younger runners. We'll split into 2 groups to run round the lake then have some Bob's relays to finish. Parents please bring your running shoes, you can support a group of younger/slower runners even if you can't keep up with your own kids!

Hope to see lots of you on Friday. Any queries, please reply to this email or post in the "event" in the V S Juniors FB group https://www.facebook.com/events/310228873033723/permalink/310246809698596/

Leo's Raffle

As mentioned in the email just after Christmas, Leos are holding a raffle to raise money to resurface the drive on Crag Lane (from King Lane to the clubhouse).

As most of you drive up and down this most Tuesday evenings, you'll know this is a good cause!

You can secure a ticket simply by paying £10 per ticket to the Valley Striders AC Payments account Sort Code: 53-70-00, A/c Number: 72143851, putting "Raffle" and your name in the reference.

We will email you back letting you know the number(s) of the ticket(s) allocated to you.  If you do want the paper ticket we can arrange to have it for you at Leos before the draw.

The list of prizes is in the email (www.valleystriders.org.uk/up181226.htm), but for those that don't win there is a huge consolation prize that there will be a lower risk to your car suspension from the potholes in Crag Lane.

Peco Races

The next Peco races are this coming Sunday (6 January) at West Park, see www.pecoxc.co.uk/pages/race3.html for venue information.

There were 54 junior Striders in the first event and 44 in the second; we hope to see as many (or more) this Sunday.

If you ran in one of the first two races, don't forget to bring your number!

Northern and National Cross-Country

Northern XC Saturday 26 January at Pontefract

National XC Saturday 23 February at Harewood

Last year there were 10 junior Striders at the Northern XC championships and we hope that we will have similar numbers this year and more for the National XC championships which will be just up the road from us at Harewood.  The younger age groups are all one lap courses so no fear of being lapped.  Reply to this email to discuss.  You need to decide by Tuesday 8 January (for both events).

Northern XC costs £7 and National XC costs £8.  To enter these events, affiliation to England Athletics is also required, this costs £15.  Those who competed in track and field as U13s in the summer or ran West Yorkshire XC as U13s in the autumn are already affiliated.  For those affiliating for the first time, their affiliation will run to 31 March 2020, so can be used for this summer's track & field and next winter's cross country too.

Happy New Year

We hope you all had a good Christmas and New Year and we hope you enjoy your running and athletics in 2019.
