Training on 10 October

The juniors and beginners/improvers will be at GSAL starting 6pm prompt as the light will have gone by 6:45pm. For juniors, we have sports day part 2, please could parents volunteer to help?

The intermediates and advanced groups will be at Leeds Beckett Park track at 7pm.

Training and Food on 17 October

Food will be available to everyone on the 17th. On the menu is curry. To order, please email

before 10pm on Sunday 15th, saying whether you want a full portion (£4) or a half portion (£2) and whether you want meat (chicken) or veggie curry.

London Marathon Club Ballot Entries

For those of you who were unsuccessful in the London Marathon Ballot, we are now taking applications for the 3 club places we will be allocated.

Please email [email protected] if you would like to apply for a place. We will close entries at 10pm on 25th October.

Here are the details of the selection process. Please let me know if you have any questions.

A minimum pass/fail criteria (in priority order)
1) Could not have applied for Good For Age;
2) Member for 12 months (1st claim);
3) Rejection slip/email from this year's ballot;
4) Not had club place before.

If the number of people meeting all of the above criteria exceeds the 3 places we have been allocated then we move onto scoring (only 1 point per area so max score of 4).
1 point for coaching;
1 point for taking on a 2% role;
1 point for 4 grand prix races;
1 point for participating in any of the following: XC, club Relay team or PECO.

In the event of a tie we will give priority to those who have not had a club place in the last 5 years.

If there are still have more applicants than entries we will do a raffle at the food night on 31st October.

Cabinets

Help is required to transport 2 steel cabinets from Far Moss to Leos. Dimensions are 6ft high by 3ft wide by 1’4” deep each. They are virtually empty.

Leeds Race Series

Valley Striders are currently placed 5^th on the club leaderboard on Leeds Race Series. If you've not already entered, please do so, the deadline is 31 October and it is free.

RACE RESULTS

National 6 stage road relays

In the Northern road relays, our men had finished 28^th and as 25 teams qualified for the final, they felt a bit like Scotland must have done last night, so close! However, the following week an invitation came through, John Hobbs got his team together again (just two substitutions) and they went to Sutton Park (near Birmingham) on Saturday where they finished 69^th of the 84 teams.

Curly Rat Run at Haworth (from Helen Pell)

Henry and Flo both did their first fell race on Sunday morning over in Haworth, (The Withins Curly Rat Run) and they adored it! Given they both forgot their trail trainers and it was a total bog they did amazingly well. Henry came in 12th out of 59 in the under 9s and 8th boy and Flo was in the under 11s race and came 4th girl narrowly missing out on a prize!
