Membership Fees (including juniors)

Membership fees for the V S year 1 September 2016 to 31 August 2017 are now due.

The adult fee is the same as in 2015/6 i.e. £29, which comprises £14 for England Athletics, £7.50 for Leos and £7.50 for Valley Striders.  Thank you to the 72 who have paid so far.  www.valleystriders.org.uk/vsmemreg.htm

We have set the junior fee at £21 - up from £15 last year because of cost of facilities.   Note that juniors competing in West Yorkshire Leagues, Yorkshire Cross Country etc (but not Peco) also need to pay England Athletics fees please email [email protected] if you have a query on this

Please make payment to "A C Membership" Sort Code: 53-70-00 A/c Number: 72143878 and reference to include your name.  NB this is a different account to that for race entries, hoodies, BBQs etc.

Peco XC - Adults (from Myra)

We're now ready to start collating entries for the series. We need to register all adult runners in advance, as we need to buy in the 'chipped' race numbers.

If you would like to run please email [email protected]  and transfer £3 to Sort Code: 53-70-00 A/c Number: 72143851 to cover the cost to enter the series, including the race number. Please include your name and PECO as a reference.

Each race is then £3 to enter (pay on the day) and here's a reminder of the dates:

Race 1 - 27th November (Temple Newsam)

Race 2 - 18th December (TBC)

Race 3 - 22nd January (West Park)

Race 4 - 19th February (Barnbow)

Race 5 - 5th March (Roundhay Park)

Relays & Presentation - 12th March (Golden Acre Park?)

For those who haven't taken part in the PECOs before, the adult races are around 5 miles long, and are usually a mixture of country footpaths and grassy fields. The races are suitable for a wide range of abilities so if you can do the distance, sign up and join the fun!

By the way, there is free food after every race!

Information will appear at www.pecoxc.co.uk but it's a bit bare at the moment.

Peco XC - Juniors (from Bob)

There is no fee for the series, just pay £1 on the day.  Races are approx. 1 mile at 10:00 for school years 4 to 6 (if younger, please ask Richard or Bob for advice); approx. 2 miles at 10:20 for school years 7 to 12.

The Junior League Race Secretary (me!) would appreciate a list of names in advance, so if your junior athlete is thinking of running one or more of these races, please email [email protected] with the name(s),  please also supply school year.

Your 2% for Valley Striders

There were 16 of us at last Tuesday's meeting and a number of people signed up for 2%, such that most teams now have 4 or 5 members and we're well on the way to being organised for 2017.

All the documents have been updated at www.valleystriders.org.uk/vsconst.htm.  If you want to see who is in each team, see http://valleystriders.org.uk/2016OrganisationSummary.doc and if you want a bit more detail of what each team does, see http://valleystriders.org.uk/2016RoleSummaries.doc .  You will see a few people in two teams (doing 4%), so if you want to spread the load by joining one of these teams or want more information please email [email protected]

We will discuss further at the AGM on 1 November.

At the AGM, I will be retiring from being VSAC Chairman after 20 years in the job.  I'm not leaving the Club and I have already signed up for my 2% for 2017.

Punk Panther Ultra Races 2017  (Advertisement)

Next Year we are launching a series of 6 Ultramarathons. Each will have trophies for First Male, Female and Veteran Male and Female over 50. Points given each race will count towards an annual trophy in each category. Punk Panther Ultra Marathons all start in Otley, West Yorkshire and finish in Pool-in-Wharfedale, West Yorkshire, with free return transport to the event car park. They are a minimum of 50K and are run over a variety of challenging courses over the Moors and Dales of West and North Yorkshire visiting stunning scenery including Ilkley Moor, The Chevin and the many reservoirs and beauty spots the area has to offer.

Every finisher receives a medal, Punk Panther Ultra Marathons Tech T Shirt and certificate as well as a hot meal at the finish. Refreshments are provided en-route but you are expected to carry basic supplies as per a kit list.

I wonder if you would be prepared to advertise these to your club members please?

Sutton-on-the-Forest 10k (from Mick Tinker)

A first time for me on this great little race, which has some tarmac, woods, fields and a lot of old airfield runway on the flat-pan route.

12:00 start is a bit late but luckily it was cloudy and fresh, so no heat exhaustion likely.

An easy M60+ win for VS 2nd claim Howard Jeffrey. I was 10th of 23 in the same age group, so obviously an "oldies" race.

1      37.38 David Smithers      Male M40      York Knavesmire Harriers

23    43.22 Howard Jeffrey      Male M60+    Otley Ac

88    50.50 Mick Tinker            Male M60+    Valley Striders Ac

Amanda Seims in the money

At the Ilkley Incline (1 mile uphill), technically I was 3rd lady (1s behind 2nd place!) but apparently she was U23 so they said something along the lines of me being second in my category. Never the less I got a voucher which was exciting and something I've never won before so that was great.  I also came second lady in the Harrogate Haverah 10 mile trail race (18th Sept) and came 5th lady at the Dales Trail 40 last Saturday (increased to full marathon distance this year).

For someone who rarely ever wins prizes I've had a good month - £20 Complete Runner for Ilkley Incline, £30 cash for Harrogate trail race and the organisers of the Country Trail races felt sorry for me as I'd won two individual races (which don't offer prizes) but didn't count in the overall league as I had to do 3 races so they sent me £10 cash out of the prize fund

Bob writes: I'm pleased to let everyone know that the winner of the other two Country Trail races, Rachel Mackie, also got £10 for her efforts!
