Training (and food)

Tuesday 31 May

Juniors, beginners, improvers and slower intermediates will be at Grammar School at Leeds at 6pm.  NB there will be a separate group for adults.  http://www.valleystriders.org.uk/GSAL-map-new.doc

Experienced runners and faster intermediates will be on the hill by Eccup Reservoir, meet Leos at 7pm.

Tuesday 7 June

- Juniors and parents will be at Leos at 6pm.
- Beginners, improvers and intermediates will be at Leos at 7pm
- Experienced runners will be 3 by 10 minutes by Eccup Reservoir, meet Leos at 7pm
- Fell session - see Facebook page
-
Early sessions followed by lasagne at 7:15pm - book at [email protected]
- Later sessions followed by lasagne at 8:30pm - book at [email protected]
- Book before 10pm Sunday 5 June, choosing meat or veggie lasagne (£3.50).

NB If I was Ms Earlyfood or Mr Food (which I'm not), I'd be getting quite annoyed by the number of people that email on Monday morning (or even Monday evening or Tuesday morning) asking if they can get in.  There you go, there's my whinge of the week!  But there's no excuse, you've all now had plenty of notice!

Tuesday 14 June

It's our Junior Race!  Most groups are cancelled.  There will be a session at Leeds Met Track at 7pm for experienced runners, but if any of that group want an entertaining evening instead, please come and watch the races!

Meanwood Valley Trail Junior Races on Tuesday 14 June

Help still needed to publicise the event - please email [email protected] if you can hand out flyers at races or put them in shops, sports centres, schools, etc.

The races are open to all junior runners - V S junior members, V S junior waiting list, other club runners and juniors who aren't members of clubs.

For more details, go to www.valleystriders.org.uk, I don't think you can miss the large print at the top of the homepage.

In summary:
- We are encouraging runners to register in advance, there is no commitment to run and they get £2 off their entry fee (£3 instead of £5)
- There will be a medal for every finisher
- The junior races will start at 18:45 with a 1 mile race for school years 3-4, followed by races for years 5-6 (1 mile), 7-8 (2 miles) and 9-12 (2 miles)
- Note that school years 1 and 2 may enter the "3-4" race if their parent is confident that their child can run a mile.

So far we have 50 entries / registrations, but only 10 from Valley Striders!  Please register sooner rather than later!

Pool Feast - Sunday 12 June - 1pm to 5pm

Village stalls, dog shows, assault course, junior sports, climbing walls...

And a 5km trail race at 3pm in memory of former Strider runner Chris Leggatt.

Email [email protected] for an entry form.

Yorkshire Evening Trail Series

This is a series of 4 races through the summer, co-ordinated by Jason Praill and organised by local clubs see www.countrytrailraces.co.uk.

The women's winner in the first race from the Royalty on Otley Chevin was our Rachel Mackie.  Other Striders running were Alan Hutchinson and Jason Praill.

The second race will be the "Pudsey Pelt" on 22 June from the Bankhouse Inn, Bankhouse Lane, Pudsey, LS28 8EB.  Start any time between 6:30pm and 7:30pm.  Self Guided Trail Race of approx 5 miles. Undulating with a mix of footpaths, woodland tracks and road. Permit: TRA407. Min Age 16+

Entry on the day £5 attached / £7 unattached. All runners receive a £2 voucher to use in the pub afterwards.

Neither Kate nor Rosemary were in the computer, so the John Umpleby handicap cup was awarded to John Hussey.

Thanks to Mike & Eileen Crosfill, John & Pat Umpleby, Jean Hussey, Cat Horn, James Tarran and David More for officiating,

Special thanks to Sam Harris who looked after the starting times sheet and managed to get everyone off at the correct time - it's a long time since this has happened - you may have a job for life, Sam!

And, on the same evening, just down the road ...
