Tuesday Training – Early
Starts
Please
note that for the next 2 weeks (Tuesdays 23rd and 30th) the
“7pm” groups will meet earlier to make the best use of the light.
Experienced
runners - meet 6:40 at Leos to jog across the fields, or meet 6:45 at Leos to
jog up The Avenue, or meet 7:00 by the lodge by the Reservoir. 23rd
will be hills and 30th a pyramid session on the reservoir path.
Intermediates
– meet 6:45 at Leos.
Tuesday 30 September – AGM
and Food
The
Annual General Meeting will start at 8:15pm on Tuesday 30 September.
All
welcome – please come along to hear reports of the previous 12 months, elect
your committee for the next 12 months, and discuss actions for the next 12
months.
Various
papers will appear on the website in the days leading up to the meeting on http://valleystriders.org.uk/vsconst.htm .
Already there is a copy of the club constitution showing proposed
amendments. I’ll be putting Paul White’s accounts there soon. Also
there is a list is the current committee. If you want to put names to
faces or faces to names, go to http://valleystriders.org.uk/vsalbum/ph2_committee.htm .
Harewood Trail Races – 19th
October – final begging request
John says
- We’re nearly
there but are still about 10 marshals short – if there is anyone out there who
is still available for a couple of hours please email help@valleystriders.org.uk as
soon as possible so we can notify the various ‘teams’ in plenty of time.
Bob says – John’s done a really neat change such that
one set of marshals will be responsible for the junior race and a different set
for the senior race – this means that the early group will be able to leave at
10:35 and some of the later group will be able to have a lie-in (although they
will be needed before 10:35). If you’re only available for a limited
time, please say so on your email!
Bob also
says – we’d
like lots of Valley Striders juniors to run the 2 mile race – see www.racebest.com .
It is in the Valley Striders Junior Grand Prix and in the Leeds Junior Race
Series.

Swimming Survey
Mike
Furby has created a survey (10 questions) https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/9NQT9NY and
linked via the VS triathletes facebook page https://www.facebook.com/groups/valleystriderstriathlon/ .
He thanks those who’ve responded so far and now wishes to widen the survey to
all Valley Striders as only a small proportion of Striders have joined the
facebook page.
He says
“The aim is to try to identify the volume of interest in swimming within Valley
Striders and whether there is a desire to do more swimming for whatever reason
(leisure, injury recovery, triathlon). In addition I hope it will also point
out the variety of options for decent swimming sessions that are already
available and that you may not be aware of. It also allows comments to be added
to some of the questions”
If you
swim regularly or occasionally please respond to the survey, it will only take
a minute to answer the questions. Please add comments to the survey, and
if you want to share them, then also use the Facebook page.

that as soon as Steve sends me the updated table with my one and only fell race
of 2014, it will be uploaded to the website
The Grand
Prix table has been updated to include Vale of York Half. Note that VSGP
has an “Any Other Marathon” category, and this includes off-road marathons, so
if you run a marathon anywhere, please email your result.
21 years ago … the Dales
Way
The Dales
Way is an 82 mile long distance footpath from Ilkley to Windermere, and the
Meanwood Valley Trail (that runs past Leos) is the official link path from
Leeds onto the Dales Way.
Back in
1992 (?) a group of Striders ran the full distance as a relay. http://valleystriders.org.uk/vsalbum/90gen/falcol.htm .
The beginners/improvers group should be able to recognise one of the runners!
In Clare
Balding’s new series of “Rambling” on Radio 4, the 6 episodes will take in
various stretches of the Dales Way.
In this
week’s episode, she was walking from the Old Bridge at Ilkley (the official
start point) to Bolton Abbey, and her companion for this section was one of the
founders of the Rohan clothing company.

10 Years ago … the Olympic
marathon
10 years
plus a few days ago Tracey Morris was running in the Olympic Games marathon –
from Marathon to Athens.
Her story
has just been featured in the Yorkshire Evening Post in a series of stories
that they’re publishing about people who made the local headlines.
