Brussels

Waiting for a full set of results, congratulations due to

·         Andy May - 7th in the half marathon and

·         Holly Williams – won the ladies 4k race

Also today were the Mablethorpe marathon, the Bramham 10k and the Red Bull Steeplechase

Race report from the Red Bull Steeplechase – from Steve Wilkins

The Red Bull Steeplechase is a fell race from Castleton in the Derbyshire Peak District usually on the 1st weekend on October (just over an hour’s drive from Leeds).

Cost is around twenty pounds but you get a red bull hooded top, running socks and tea towel?! Plus they send you 4 cans of bull as well – a bargain.

Race format - 21 miles split into four knockout stages.

·         1st  stage is 8 miles but only the first 300 get through.

·         2nd  stage is 4 miles (pretty much all of it is vertical climbing or descending!) with only the first 125 getting through.

·         3rd  stage is 6 miles but only the top 30 males and 10 females get through after this check point

·         4th stage is 3 miles.

Red Bull also put on a bbq and after party at the finish at the Castle Pub.  Coaches from the end of each stage back to the finish / start are also laid on as part of the entrance fee.

It was horrendously hilly, very well organised and cheap to enter!  I got through to the last steeple (18 miles) but missed the cut off for the final 3 miles, finishing in 77th place.

Thoroughly enjoyed it though and will be back next year.  I recommend it to all Striders.

Google redbullsteeplechasecastleton for full details.
