Dates for July (and a few beyond)

Sat 6 Jul – Valley Striders will be organising the Leeds (Hyde Park / Woodhouse Moor) parkrun on 3 August and shadowing the organisers on 6 July.  We’d like a few people to go this Saturday morning to see the admin team - race director, timekeeper, tag hander-outer, bar-code reader - in action, please email Alex Watson-Usher [email protected] if you’ll be going this Saturday.  NB assuming you are faster than 25 mins or so, you could probably run the race and then observe.

·         10 mile race – online entry via www.abbeyrunners.co.uk available till “Friday tea-time”, also entries on the day at £2 extra (it says on the website)

·         Junior races - will be taking entries on the day for the Eccup 1 & 2 Mile Junior Races on Sunday (in the main hall at Adel Sports & Social Club, from 8.15 – 9.15am) (from Mark Hetherington) – note also that year 3 are able to enter

Cycling kit – message from Andy Stoneman

A few folk have asked about kit down at Leo’s recently

Due to demand we’ll be making another kit order. Please take a look at the kit list on the website
www.valleystriders.org.uk/riders  and let me know if you’d like to order anything. The order deadline is Tuesday 23rd July.

Popular items are the arm warmers and full back wind gilets which are also useful for running, the bibshorts, short sleeve tops and the lightweight training jacket.

Please also note we can order junior cycling tops with a short zip at £35.

Fell Championships – from Steve Webb

League updated to include Buckden Pike, which was a rather crowded affair as it was an English Champs counter.  The pinch points en route to the fell brought the field to a standstill, and there was a very early faller due to a speed bump in the car park!

Following scrutiny of the scores I've had to treat one of Mick's runs as a non-counter: he still needs to bag a Medium.  This leaves Ross Bibby as a clear leader at present with a full complement of 5 scoring races.

Lou Gilchrist – British 10k record holder

Congratulations to Lou Gilchrist who just over a week ago knocked nearly 4 minutes off the British 10k record for the W80 category – she ran 61:37 at the Oldham 10k

Free items – from Amanda Seims

FREE Mizuno Wave Harrier 3 fell shoes in size 7. Washed and clean and good for someone wanting to try fell running. Great on steep grassy/muddy terrain.

FREE Bottle holder belt for running with phone/gel pocket. It's not very adjustable at the waist as I cut the straps so it would fit me better - I am a 27inch waist but it will still extend to 30 inch.

You just need to be able to collect from Moortown/Chapel Allerton.  Email Amanda
