Training
Normal sessions next
week – check the website for details (I’d better remember to update it!)
Excellent sessions
Tuesday just gone, over 30 for the beginners/improvers run by Andy, and great
to see Kathy and Ken back from holidays in NZ. Holly had 15 for her track
session, and there were another 20+ in the experienced runners group who did a
tough 8 by 800’s at 5 minutes per rep. A few did alternate 800’s and
400’s but I’m not sure that was any easier. Some positive feedback from
both track groups, so likely to be similar sessions next month on 12th.
Events
A reminder that it’s
Peco Race 4 at John Smeaton on Sunday, juniors at 10:00 or 10:20 and seniors at
11:00, enter and pay on the day and you need not have entered previous races in
the series. Only £3, and this includes food afterwards upstairs in
the sports centre. VS Grand Prix race.
For the full list of
Grand Prix, Junior Grand Prix and Fell Championship races for the year, go to www.valleystriders.org.uk , click on “For Club
Members” tab, then click on “Key Dates and Events”
Meanwood Valley Trail
and Junior Races – Saturday 20 April
Thanks to those who
replied, we have 12 marshals now, need another 58. If you can help,
please email [email protected] .
I’m still looking for
help with publicity – taking entry forms to local sports centres, running shops
and, in particular, schools.
Nutrition Talk /
Workshop – Tuesday 26 February at Leos
Debbie Fearnley is
doing a talk “Fundamentals of Nutrition” on Tuesday 26 February at 8:30pm at
Leos.
Debbie says “As the
workshops are interactive, so that I can get round and speak to everyone when
setting individual goals I ask for no more than 20
athletes/parents/coaches”. So although there will be a presentation there
will also be opportunities to ask your own questions.
There are just 6
places left. The final places are likely to go fast, so don’t delay, book
today at [email protected] putting “Debbie” in
the subject of your message.
For those who have
already booked, I’ll send out some more details this weekend.
Marathons
Voting has concluded
for the Striders Autumn Marathon, and Brussels on 6 October received nearly 90%
of the 28 votes.
Patrick says “Yes, we’re off to the
delightful Euro HQ city of Brussels for weekend of 05 - 08 Oct 2013 for either
a Full, half & 4k run. Fly from Manchester direct to Brussels international
I’m proposing we fly out of Manchester on Sat 5th Oct, on the
10:30 departure and return on Tues 8th Oct on the 16:25 flight. I
will now check the hotel options and then email Bob to include an open the
invitation to all VS within the next week or two”
There are lots of
Striders planning spring and/or autumn marathons. Email me, tell me where
and when you’re running and I’ll collate a list. Please use the on [email protected] email.

Wadsworth Trog report
from Steve Dixon
This is a 21 mile
race over challenging terrain sapping energy from your legs very quickly.
The race starts from the Old Town above Hebden Bridge and is well organised by
Calder Valley Fell Runners. The route takes you over lots of remote and
pathless fell country, Wadsworth and Midgley Moor been two of them and dropping
down to visit a couple of reservoirs along the way. Navigational skills
are essential, unless you can follow the right Calder Valley vest, when the
clag comes down. Luckily on the day visibility was good.
Karl Gray had the
respect of all with his unbelievable time of 2 hours and 49 minutes but from a
VS perspective the performance of the day was Kim’s that earned her an
incredibly heavy trophy to take home being the first lady home in front of Dark
Peak’s Nicky Spinks.
Other notable
performances were from Andrew Stoneman in his first ever fell race; Ann and
Sarah in contributing to winning the Ladies team prize and also Malcolm in
winning the VM70 prize. He may have been the only VM70 running but he came home
in a very impressive time. All in all it was a very successful day for
the Striders.
