Next two Tuesdays
Tuesday 25 September
– note that all groups meet at Harewood Village Hall – and note that the 7pm
groups meet earlier than usual – details below.
Tuesday 2 October -
note that all groups meet at Leos – and note that the 7pm groups meet earlier
than usual – details below. Also note that reflective bibs are compulsory
for all but the 6pm group.
Tuesday 25 September
Directions to
Harewood Village Hall - Go on the A61 out of Leeds, past Leeds Grammar
School. After about 3 miles you reach the traffic lights at
Harewood. Continue through the lights and then after 100 yards turn left
just after the bus shelter (which is just opposite the Harewood Arms
pub). This is Church Lane. The Village Hall is 100 yards on the
right.
Parking instructions
– please note that there is a karate class on at the Hall that evening.
Please park to the left and back of the Village Hall, not on the right which
we’ll keep clear for the karate people.
Kathy’s 6pm group to
meet at the Hall for 6pm. The Harewood Estate have kindly arranged to open
two gates for us so we’ll be able to run the entire 2 mile route. We’ll
do it in short bursts and regroup. If you have a running watch, you be
able to start and stop it to get your running time and then compare with race
day!
All other groups meet
at the Hall for 6:30pm prompt.
I’ll be leading
Holly’s intermediates and we’ll run the route in five one-mile sections
regrouping at the end of each section. The plan is to get round in an
hour and 5 minutes. This is quite a bit longer than the slowest of you
took for the Handicap last week, so will be a pleasant run (apart, perhaps, for
the last hill).
The normal Tuesday
club runners will set off just afterwards – you’ll need to start promptly and
run fairly quickly to get 8 miles in before dark, otherwise play safe with the
5 mile route. I’m looking for 2 group leaders for this session –
preferably people who know the route!!
Tuesday 2 October
This the the night of
the Annual General Meeting which will start at 8:30pm prompt. Food will
be available, book meat pie or veg bake; mushy peas or baked beans to food@valleystriders.org.uk by Sunday 30
September 10pm. Sorry no dessert!
Kathy’s group will
meet at 6pm (not 7pm as previous food nights, we’re guessing the kids won’t be
too interested in the AGM)
The plan is that the
other 3 groups (Holly’s group, club group and Simon’s monthly fell group) will
all meet a quarter of an hour earlier than usual i.e. at 6:45 pm to have a good
chance of getting back and showered by 8:30pm.
By next weekend there
will be an agenda on the website and I’ll publish a link in next week’s VSWU..
Hope to see lots of
Striders, old and new, on 2 October.

I am moving to Singapore at the end of October and therefore I've got 7 weeks
to sort myself out. It would be a great help if you could add the insert below

A colleague of
mine is looking for male runners/ triathletes, aged 18-40 (although could
possibly up this limit to 45). There will be five trials each consisting of a
120 minute run at 70% VO2max followed immediately by a 5km time trial all at
2500m simulated altitude. There will be a different drink during each
trial - combination of glucose and fructose, glucose only or a placebo.
As part of this study you will perform a VO2max test, basically a maximal
fitness test, which I know a lot of you are keen to do.
Please read the attached file and contact Nicola Nicola_Reeve_Information_for_Participants.doc
