Subject: V S Mini-Update - regarding 5/6/7 June

Just a quick update as I suspect some of you may be sneaking off early today …

Tuesday 5 June – 3 sessions all at 7pm and food at 8:15-8:30pm

1)    Kathy’s 6pm session and Holly’s 7pm session have been merged and will take place at 7pm and led by Holly & Bob (session suitable for all).  Everyone welcome, including juniors and newcomers – please invite your running friends who normally have other commitments on working Tuesdays.

2)    Simon’s monthly fell session at 7pm from Leo’s, led by Dan.  This will be a speed/interval session through the woods near Leos using some of the Meanwood Valley Trail route.

3)    Club speed session at 7pm from Leo’s, jogging up to Eccup Res for 3 by 10 minutes.

4)    Followed by lasagne at 8:15-8:30pm – you must book in advance - please book to [email protected] by 10pm Sunday 3rd saying whether you want meat or veggie lasagne (£3) and whether you want apple pie & ice cream (£1.50).  Food available for non-runners too!

Wednesday 6 June – 7:30pm Otley Chevin Fell Race http://www.fellrunner.org.uk/races.php?id=1855 – V S Fell Championships

Thursday 7 June – note change of training venue - 6:45pm “Max’s Run” - the Scott Hall session will instead run from Oakwood Clock to run a 2 mile lap of Max Jones’s training route (he would have been 85 on 3 June) and then probably a lap of Roundhay Park (optional).  Max ran road, track and cross country at Cambridge University at the same time as Roger Bannister and Chris Brasher, then gave up running to take up football refereeing.  He returned to running for the first London Marathon in 1981 and was one of only 40 to run the first 21 London marathons.  He then took up ultra running, running races 50km and above and also 24 hour races, and set many world and British age group records, including 192km (118miles) in 24 hours as a 70 year old.  Because of eyesight problems, most of his training was on a 2 mile route from Oakwood Clock which had few road intersections – sometimes doing 10 laps - and it is this route we’ll run on 7 June - we’ll just do one lap. Everyone welcome.

NB you can read more about Max at http://valleystriders.org.uk/maxjones.htm

Normal V S Update service will be resumed next week

Have a great holiday and hope to see many of you on Tuesday and/or Thursday (but definitely not Wednesday for me!)
