bright, bright’s really important. If you’re not already really bright then
write to Santa quick for new bright stuff. I’m writing for a new brain so I’ll
be really bright – if I’m no brighter after Christmas I’ll assume he didn’t get
my letter.”

Club vests – policy
I have had
comments from a few new members who have been to parkruns and didn’t know till
they saw the race results that there were so many Striders running.
It was
agreed at the AGM http://www.valleystriders.org.uk/VS%20AGM%20Minutes%20Nov%2010.doc
that Striders members should, in all races, wear their Striders vest or
alternatively wear the vest of a charity for which they are being
sponsored. (It’s not in our constitution at present but is in the
“welcome” email sent to new members). And to “encourage” this, we should
exclude race performances from our database for Performance Certificates if the
club member is not wearing a Striders or charity vest.
The
majority of Striders do wear club vests in most races but only a minority wear
them for parkruns (some saying that this is because they are not real
races). If you run a parkrun and want your performance included you will
need to email [email protected]
to claim your performance and say that you were wearing a club vest. This
will take effect from 1 January 2011.
Comments
welcome!
Peco XC 19/12/2010 ~
1-2 for Striders
A great
result on a very frosty
NB the
ladies are in the “second” division so are placed well for promotion (I think 3
teams will go up). In Sunday’s race, had the ladies been in the top
division, they would have been third, so are very competitive with the leading
teams.

The weather
tried its best to play havoc with the running fixtures again this weekend but
all the main events went ahead.
The second
race in the PECO cross-country League featured Bradford-Airedale, Eccleshill
Road Runners and Saltaire Striders (formerly St Bede’s AC). A total of
242 hardy souls braved the 4.8-mile course over rock-hard, snow-covered ground
in
Tim Midgley
(running second-claim for Horsforth Harriers) made light of the conditions to
win, with Matt John, from Abbey Runners, second.
Abbey
packed their eight counters in the top 30 to win the event comfortably. Valley
and Rothwell follow in the team competition, with Horsforth dropping to
fourth. Ilkley Harriers, in the Premier Division, were severely depleted
and only managed four men counters and two ladies and now find themselves
adrift at the bottom of the league with three races to go.
Will Kerr
(Saltaire) finished sixth to lead his team to a second consecutive victory in
the men’s first division. Bradford-Airedale, in their first season,
finished an impressive second to also kindle visions of promotion.
Club
chairman Chris Hainsworth said: “We are taking it one step at a time but
yesterday was encouraging. This year’s aim was just to get a team out and let
everyone know we are still in existence. I think that promotion might be a bit
ambitious this year but could well be within our grasp next year.”
Saltaire
captain Kerr said: “The men managed to put out an incredible 16 runners. This
is what being a running club is all about for me. Mass participation makes the
club stand out and at the same time brings the members closer together.”

priority is given to Striders who (a) have been members for longer than a year
and (b) have applied in the London Marathon ballot and (c) have received a
