Harewood Trail Race –
Sunday 10 October
I’ve
managed to rearrange the Harewood Trail Race not to clash with the first race
in the West Yorks XC league, but in doing so have clashed with at least 3 other
races in Yorkshire – the Woodland Challenge at Huddersfield, a Yorkshire Vets
race at Skipton and the Shaun Lee Johnstone race at Boroughbridge.
So we’ll
need lots of publicity to bring runners in to our race. If you are going
to a race, can you help by handing out our race entry forms (or putting them on
car windscreens)? Or can you put entry forms in local sports
centres? Or in schools? Please email me if you can help!
Help requested at Leeds 10k Run For All – Sunday 4 July
NB this is
not an official V S request and if you do want to help but wish to donate
“your” £10 (see below) to the Jane Tomlinson fund rather than Valley Striders,
feel free to do so.
From Marie
Rymer of “Run for All”:
I have been
asked to contact you by Graeme Hodgson who is the Events Director for the
Please accept our sincere
apologies for giving you such short notice but it has only come to light that
no one may have been in touch earlier with regards to asking if you are still
able to provide volunteers as you have kindly done in previous years with the
Event?
I would therefore be very
grateful if you are able to assist and as a way of a thank you I am pleased to
confirm that for every volunteer we will donate £10 to Valley Striders AC.
Thank you for your ongoing
support and I look forward to hearing from you I would be grateful if you could

I am contacting you to ask if you would kindly let
your junior members (or interested children of your senior members) know about
the 1 and 2 mile ‘Junior Athletes’ road races that Abbey Runners are organising
in conjunction with the Eccup 10 mile senior race on Sunday July 11th.
The 1 mile race is open to juniors aged 8 – 10,
whereas the 2 mile race is for juniors aged 11 – 16. The race entry form and
the race information are available on the Abbey Runners web site (www.abbeyrunners.co.uk).
These races are ‘pre entry’ only; the closing date for
the receipt of entries is Monday 5th July. There is also a
‘fun run’, which is open to all ages and may be entered on the day.
Message from Jenny Cooper,
Dear Geoff/Sylvia
Just to say thank you very much for putting on another
fantastic effort on Tuesday. Valley Striders always put on a good race
and lovely spread of sarnies afterwards. Hope everything went well from your
end.
The Vets Committee and I are very grateful for clubs
hosting races – please pass on our thanks to your club members.

Rowing a marathon – from Hetta Morath of Abbey Runners
This is to
let you know that I have decided to celebrate turning 70 on July 14th, by
rowing a marathon on the indoor rower. You probably know that Colin was
diagnosed last year with a brain tumour, so I have decided to use the occasion
to raise money for the brain tumour charity Andrea's Gift. www.andreasgift.org.uk
Colin will be supporting me at the new Armley Sports Centre, and if you feel
able to sponsor me, I would be really grateful. You can do this easily via my
just giving page, www.justgiving.com/Hetta-Morath
Many thanks

Some of you
will know the name, some will know the voice, some will have seen the man with
the bobble hat cheering and cajoling Leeds City runners at various cross
country events, some will have looked on the Leeds City website and seen the
weekly reports from “The Scribe” where every Leeds City athlete seemed to get a
mention if they’d competed that week. Not many of us knew that John was
also a 2:20 marathon runner or a veteran field events athlete.
Sadly, John
died in his sleep on Monday night. He will be missed by all of
