Subject: VS Update - 2 of 2 - Tuesday training & lasagne, National XC, PECO XC at Esholt, Lasagne and Lifts

I’ve successfully transferred you to my new distribution lists!

Track Training at Carnegie – Tuesday 23 February

Is ON (subject to it not being icy).  I’ll get there early and check the conditions!  We are booked in from 7p.m. so please arrive between 6:50 and 6:55 to allow time for queuing (earlier if you need to get changed too).  Maps at http://valleystriders.org.uk/striders.htm#Training

Whilst on the subject of Carnegie, I still only have 12 comments about Ali Rose’s session.  Please send me a comment, however brief, before next Wednesday.

National XC – Saturday 27 February

Just a week away now. We have 50 Striders running.

We are also marshalling a short section of the route on Soldiers’ Fields.  If you are not running but are coming to watch and are able to help for just one hour, please let me know.

Lasagne – Tuesday 2 March

Bookings are now open for lasagne after training at Leos on Tuesday 2 March.  Email [email protected] stating whether you want meat lasagne or vegetarian lasagne, and whether you want apple pie.  Bookings will close 10pm on Sunday 28 February

Peco XC – Sunday 7 March

The final race is at Esholt.  It has been moved from Thackley.

Details at http://www.abbeyrunners.co.uk/PECO/race5.html No post-race food will be provided, so the Senior entry fee will be £2.00 instead of £2.50.

Striders teams are neither destined for honours nor for relegation but several individuals have the opportunity for a top 3 place in their age group.  Indeed, Gwil Thomas is already certain to be overall series winner, so will just be running 2 laps of honour that day.  I mentioned other names a couple of weeks ago, but missed out Bob Wilkes, who is currently in second place in the M65 category, behind Malcolm Coles.

Race Result – Winter Hill Fell Race near Bolton

There were 5 Striders at this, the second race in the 2010 Valley Striders Fell Championship

 44 Steve Webb       1:53:25

 50 Eirik Stangnes   1:54:42

 70 Aled Greenhalgh  2:01:57

155 Malcolm Coles    2:26:22

174 Geoff Webster    2:34:44

There was a bit of a Yorkshire invasion as Pudsey and Bramley took the first 3 places and there were also 12 Abbey Runners amongst the 196 finishers.

Car share

Alan Walsh is running the Huddersfield 10k on Sunday 28 February and is offering a lift to any Valley Strider also running that race.  Contact Alan [email protected]

Any other Striders wanting to offer lifts or needing a lift to a race are welcome to email me and I’ll put it in the next V S Update.  Suggest you email me 3 to 4 weeks before the race, because, as you know, there isn’t a V S Update every week (but sometimes there are 2 in a day!!)
