Subject: VS Events in next 7 days

Three notices of events in the next few days – there will be a normal V S Update at the weekend with latest results and a diary for the next 3 months

Lineham Farm Summer Fayre – Saturday 4 July

Ruth Fawcett, Fundraising Manager writes “the Summer Fayre and It’s a Knockout is at Lineham Farm on Saturday 4th July between 11a.m and 4p.m.  Come and take a look around the animals, enjoy a delicious barbeque, followed by cream tea and have a go at climbing.  I’ll hopefully see you there”.   NB I suspect the wise people will do the climbing before the barbeque or cream tea!

To get to Lineham Farm, go up King Lane past Leos, continue along to the T junction with Arthington Road, there turn right going past the back entrance of Golden Acre.  Continue to the brow of the hill but instead of turning left for Bramhope, go straight on for 50 yards and then turn right, it’s signposted from there.  (or put Swan Lane or LS16 8AZ in your satnav).

During the last 10 years, Valley Striders have raised over £20,000 for Lineham Farm from our race profits.  Take an hour or so on Saturday to visit if you can!

Club Handicap and Pie & peas – Tuesday 7 July

Tuesday 7 July – club handicap 5¼ miles.  We meet at 6:55pm prompt by Eccup Reservoir by the lodge at the bottom of the steep hill from Alwoodley Lane – where we start most of our summer training runs.  The route is clockwise to Eccup, then on the zigzag path towards Emmerdale, just before Emmerdale turn right and return across the dam and then along the reservoir path. There’s a map of the route on the website http://valleystriders.org.uk/hcaptrl.jpg but instructions will be given on the night.  The first runner will start at 7pm, so if you’re one of the faster runners you’ll be starting about 7:15 – don’t be late!

Afterwards, at Leos there will be meat pie (£2.50) or vegetarian bake (£2.50) with either mushy peas or baked beans.  Apple pie at £1.50 is optional. Please order by email by 10pm Sunday evening (orders will be confirmed) or by text to 0777 5898 558 by 2pm Monday afternoon (orders will not be confirmed).  If you miss these deadlines there is a chance there will be one or two spare on the night but you take your chance!

After the meal we’ll be presenting Performance Certificates to those who’ve qualified this year – look at http://valleystriders.org.uk/perfcert.htm to see if you’ve qualified.

Golden Acre Park Relays – Wednesday 8 July

Starts at 7:30 pm near the Arthington Road entrance to Golden Acre (see Lineham Farm information above for directions).  Suggest you arrive about 7pm to register although the back car park may be full by then and you may need to drive to the main car park on Otley Road and then jog through the Park.

It’s teams of 3, so get together with 2 other Striders and pay your £10 (per team) on the night to enter.  Each runner runs a lap of just over 2½ miles.
