Lasagne!

Yes, It’s definitely lasagne for next Tuesday, 4 February

Please email me before 10pm Sunday night, stating whether you want carnivore or vegetarian.  Also whether you want apple pie and if so, whether with cream or ice cream.

If you forget, you can text 0777 5898 558 up to 2pm Monday

Northern Cross Country

It was a great event in Roundhay Park on Saturday, with over 2000 runners in the 10 races during the afternoon.  Due to the strong winds we were not allowed to put tents up so we tied the Valley Striders banner to a tree and used it for our base. We had 28 runners and almost as many supporters.

Under 17 Men (6km)

152 David Bass       25:43

162 finished

This was David’s first ever cross country race, and although near the back he was in a group and 4 minutes clear of the last placed runner.  Next year he will still be in the same age group so could well be in the top half.

Senior Women (8km)

 73 C Farrow         32:21

 95 E Tasker         33:18

118 L Clark          34:04

166 H Nancolas       36:13

175 S Sunderland     36:27

182 M Egan           36:49

268 S Watson         42:49

also

 81 A Bogie ChapelA  32:46

285 L Towers Nidd    48:31

290 finished

We finished 16th out of 28 teams.  Of the local teams, we were behind Bingley (2), Leeds (6), Holmfirth (7), Knavesmire (11) and Keighley (14) and ahead of York (17), Horsforth (24), Kirkstall (26) and Abbey (27).

Under 15 Boys (4km)

162 Eddy Robinson    15:09

200 finished

An excellent result for Eddy in only his second cross country race.  Next year he will still be in the same age group, he will only need to improve by a minute to put him in the top half of the field.

We were 29th out of 53 teams.  Another 450 clubs in the North of England did not have a complete team or failed to show up.

Of the local teams we were behind Leeds City (1), Bingley (6), Pudsey & Bramley (9), Knavesmire (10) and York (13) and ahead of Wakefield (30), Keighley (33), Otley (35), Horsforth (37) and Harrogate (44).

We also had more runners than any club except Leeds City

Ferriby 10 – Vicky Whitehead 1st!

From Tim Towler:  Hi Bob, I am pleased to advise of our first road victory of the year. Vicky was first in 61.25, 18th overall. Me, a little more pedestrian in 66.40 finishing 52nd. Cheers. Tim T

Pulse Race 2007 and 2008 (from Mick Tinker)

The final amount raised for The British Heart Foundation (BHF) from the 2007 Pulse Races is now confirmed as £6,356.

Thanks on behalf of the Pulse Race Committee and BHF for all those Striders, families and friends who helped out and/or ran one of the races.

This year's event is to be held on Sunday June 8th, again in Roundhay Park, and again with BHF as the main beneficiary.

As last year the main race will be a 10K but the 3 mile(ish) fun race will be replaced by a slightly longer 5K race, which should attract some JT 10K runners. (JT 10K is on June 22nd.)

Please put the date in your diaries and I'll be touting for helpers nearer the time.

Having a Do?  Give Leos a try!

Paul White represents us on the Leo’s Management Committee.  The smoking ban may have been good for runners but not for turnover at Leo’s.  They are looking for ways to boost income.  He sends the following message / advertisement:

If you are having a “do” don’t forget to consider using the facilities at Leos.  The club can be used for almost any type of function - wedding receptions, birthdays, retirements, anniversaries etc.

Arrangements can be made to suit your needs.  Top quality food can be provided along with music or a disco if required and there is ample parking.

The premises can also be used for business meetings / functions, small seminars, courses or conferences.  Regular or one-off meetings could be held by local organisations or groups.

If you want further details please have a word with Tony behind the bar or give him a ring on 07903 778918 and please mention Valley Striders.
