Club Handicap and other Goings-on, Tuesday 24 July

Meet 6:55pm down by the Res for photoshoot and then 5 mile handicap out to Eccup, Emmerdale and back round the Res.

Afterwards we have pie and peas, please book by email by Sunday 10:30pm or by text 0777 5898 558 by Monday noon stating whether meat or veg pie and whether peas or beans.

We already have 18  bookings, can we beat the record 39?

After the pie and peas we will also have some presentations including the first set of Performance Awards.

Valley Striders will be 25 years and 1 day old that day, why not bring along a photo of yourself from around 1982?

Golden Acre Relay, Wednesday 25 July

Get together in teams of three.

Registration is in the back car park off Arthington Road.  It’s only £10 per team.  The race starts at 7pm.  Suggest you're there for 6:20 to get a car park space or park further up and allow time to jog back.

See you there (I'm running for the Arcadia Striders).

Anniversary barbecue, Sunday 12 August

We'll need bookings by Tuesday 7 August.  Price is £6.50 per head.  Please state if you require vegetarian.  Families welcome.  We already have 19 booked.

Details of the run in next week's V S Update

Anniversary T shirt orders

These will be £4 for short sleeve, £5 for long sleeve, providing we can get 50 orders.  We already have 13 orders.  Orders to me by email, stating shirt size (S/M/L) and whether short- or long-sleeve.

We now have 38 runners, so only 10 spaces to fill plus some reserves.

Paul and myself will be putting together the teams next Tuesday so please let us know your availability.

Paul has volunteered to navigate some recce runs on Sundays, more details to follow.

Did you get your email on 13 July?

There was a technical problem and some people did not get it.  You can read it at

Message from Spain from Maddy Illingworth.

I'm in Spain at the moment, returning in September, so will settle my debts re subs for 2007/08 then, if that is OK.

I've entered a few local races here in Chiclana this last month and hey presto won a medal!! Amazing as I didn't expect to win anything as have had..and still do... problems with my achilles. I won the medal in an 8K with a time of 40.28 minutes! I came 6th in the women's veteran category i.e.anyone born in 1972 or before!! Well it has certainly inspired me for the final race, a 6K, a week on Saturday. Races then start up again in the autumn.

Happy, injury free running to all Valley Striders!

Eccup 10 Results

Our women were the stars  - Tracey who finished 4th overall and 1st W, Carole who was 2nd W45 (and Yorks vets trophy), and together with Natalie they were 2nd women's team.

Max ran in his second claim colours, i.e. Valley Striders, thus qualified for the Yorks Vets championships and was first M80 in just under 100 minutes.

There were a number of PBs on what is not the flattest of routes.  Well done to Jon Uttley and Simon Redshaw – can anyone else let me know if they got a PB.
