Harewood Trail
Race
I'm still finalising the results and the accounts,
we had 532 finishers in the 10 mile (down 7 from last year) and a record 249 in
the 2 mile. Profits to Lineham Farm are at least £3000 and could be over
£3500 by the time sponsorship etc is added in. A big THANK YOU to
everyone who helped before, during and after the race!
Souvenir bottles of beer for all marshals will be
available at Leo's the next 3 Tuesday evenings, any remaining will be auctioned
at the AGM.
If you want to visit Lineham Farm, there are Open
Days on Tuesday 24 October and Wednesday 25 October, both 11am to 3pm, see their
website for more
details.
The next Valley Striders organised race will be the
Meanwood Valley Trail on Saturday 14 April.
West Yorkshire Cross Country
League
The first race is this Saturday at Salendine
Nook High School (click for Streetmap), 1:45pm for women, 2:15pm for
men. If you are wanting to car-share, let me know, if you have space(s) in
your car, let me know and I will put you in contact with each
other.
If you're not on the cross country list ,
it's too late for this race, but you have till next Wednesday (18th) to let me
know if you want to run the second race on Sunday 29 October in Leeds (probably
at Adel).
If you're worried about cross-country, then (a) see
how your team members got on but (b) come and try trail / cross-country at an
event for just Abbey Runners and Valley Striders this Sunday, read on
...
Trail / XC run with Abbey
Runners
Abbey Runners run in the same West Yorks league,
but they also compete in the Sport Direct cross country league which starts on
Sunday 17 December (after WY has finished), has 5 races, all Sunday mornings,
and are mixed men/women's races. We are considering entering in this
league. The league is considered less competitive than West Yorks
(although I bet there is some keen rivalry).
Abbey Runners are putting on an event this Sunday
for themselves to encourage newer runners to have a go at off-road running and
then maybe run in the Sport Direct League. We have been
invited.
The route is our 5 mile summer
handicap (click for map) , also known as the southern 5 miles of the
Harewood Trail If you think you might run, please let me know before
Sunday morning (this does not commit you to turning up, I just need to know
possible names). The run will start by Eccup Reservoir, near the lodge at
the bottom of the steep hill from Alwoodley Lane. Start time
10:00.
Annual General
Meeting
Final change of date!! It will be on Tuesday
31 October at 8:30pm. It will also be a pie and peas night, book by Sunday
29 October at the latest.

Curry
Evening
The Thursday training squad have reintroduced
regular curry evenings, the first Thursday of the month, at the Ruchee, just a
mile up Scott Hall Road from Scott Hall Sports Centre. The Ruchee recently
scored 16/20 in a review by "Oliver" in the Yorkshire Evening Post. If you
want a good quiet meal, don't go the first Thursday in the
month. But if you want a meal with Paul and Brendan's squad, Thursday
2 November is the next date for you.
Message
from Vicky Whitehead - cross-trainer and treadmill for
sale
I have now had
confirmation that I have a stress fracture of the left pubic
ramus!!! Currently hoping it is well on its way to being mended and am
working with the physio......think it is going to be a long re-hab
process. So I hope to get back to Striders as soon as I can. Although I
think I will feel like a new member as there seem to be so many
new names I have never heard of!!
I have both a
cross trainer and a treadmill at home that I need to get rid of. The
treadmill is a Tunturi, good condition, folds up to a vertical position and
has wheels at one end to move it, and goes up to 16 k/hr, with
inclines and set programmes. The cross trainer is a Horizon
and is also in good condition and has manual or set programmes on
it. I have instruction books for both (and can confirm exact models if
anyone is interested.)
