Subject: V S Update
Leeds Half Marathon
The wonders of chips, the results were available about 4pm (thanks for
spotting them, Eric)
Two first claim Striders and three "friends" figure in the
prizes. These results are subject to checking as at least two Striders,
George and Paul S, are currently missing from the official results on
www.raceahead.net, and so presumably are
several more runners whose chips were not read, hopefully they were not
fast M50s, M55s or W45s.
First Strider home was John Uttley, I hope this time compensates for a
slightly disappointing run at London - get your next marathon entered now, John,
I'm sure you've still the fitness to achieve 2:59.
A couple of the Striders below were not in the results as Striders, if I
don't count those, but do count George and Paul, then I have 29 Striders, which
is a bigger number than all other clubs than Pudsey Pacers, who have 38
listed. But 16 of theirs finished after all of ours were in i.e. we
had 27 under 2 hours 1 minute but they only had 22. The next largest
contingents were Kirkstall (22), Horsforth (21) and Abbey (18). great to see all
the local clubs turning up for their local race (is that a quote from League of
Gentlemen?)
I have some pictures taken by Colin Barker, and Paul Hunter was busy
snapping, I will get these on the website next weekend at the latest.

I now have 7 men and 2

Come on!
Bill Murphy's
1000km
Many of you will have received an
email from Bill Murphy which started "you can blame Bob Jackson for this by
sending out messages showing everyone's e-mail, not just a distribution list
name...." but the reason for this is that many of you do not accept
anonymous emails or emails as blind copies so I have to do it that way.
And I say many of you, but some of you didn't, and that's because you are on
separate disctribution lists, e.g. Hotmail accounts seem to reject emails which
have large distribution lists. So it would be better if general emails
were sent either via me or using the message board http://groups.yahoo.com/group/valleystriders
But to summarise Bill's email (to those of you who didn't receive it first
time round), he is
raising money
for St Dunstan's - a charity that supports former Service men and women who
have become blind, either during their period of service to the Country or
subsequent to their departure from the Forces. In previous years Bill has been
sponsored for an individual event - in 2004, Ironman New Zealand,
in 2005, Ironman USA. But this year he is trying something different
and aiming to raise considerably more money in the process.
During
2006 I am looking to complete 1000km in races over the year. This may not sound
too much, but the arithmetically athletic will realise that it is the equivalent
of running 2 marathons a month for every month of the year. Given that there are
no UK marathons in January (let's face it who wants to run 26 miles after
Christmas) this means the matter is a little more complicated.
Therefore
to accumulate this distance I have a mix of races. These are:
The
Dumfries marathon done it in 3 hrs and 27 minutes
The Ashbourne
Duathlon done it in 3hrs and 6 minutes
The Leeds Half Marathon
early May
The Wetherby Triathlon Mid May
The Edinburgh
Marathon Mid June
Ironman Couer D'Alene End of June (only 2 weeks
after Edinburgh marathon!)
The Ripon Triathlon mid July
Ironman
UK mid August
The Helvellyn Triathlon early September
The
Snowdonia Marathon end of October
The Luton Marathon in December (a guy
who I ran Snowdonia with last year said of Luton "If Snowdonia is the marathon
of lakes and Mountains, Luton is the marathon of roundabouts and single
mothers." Sounds inspiring.)
These accumulate c. 900km in races so I will
be looking for some Half Marathons (21km), standard distance triathlons or the
odd half Ironman (113km) to make up the remainder. I will also be racing in the
Pool
Triangle cycling time trials for some added distance. the Chevin Chase
on Boxing Day (perish the thought).
I am aiming to raise £10000 for St
Dunstan's. Therefore I am asking you to put your hands in your pockets for some
sponsorship. You can sponsor me online at www.justgiving.com/tri1000bill
This has the benefit of allowing St Dunstan's to reclaim tax on your
donation.
Thanks in anticipation of
your support. Please give generously.
Bill, Valley Striders
will sponsor you £10 towards this. However this is the membership fees
that you are owing from last September. Consider them paid, but remember
to forward the money to St Dunstan's
