WINTER HANDICAP

27 Striders and friends ran the 5 mile race today.  The winner of the Cup was Julian Bhowmick who with a time of 30:20 "on the road" was also second fastest overall; only Steve Webb with 29.33 was faster.

Guest appearances included Lisa Wilyman, a Mancunian for the last 6 months, but now off round the world with John for the next 12 months.  We are expecting a postcard or two.  Also guesting were Lisa's mum, Chris, who ran round with Peter Lambert, and Lisa's Mum's friend, Judith, who we are trying to persuade to come to Tuesday training as she lives just off Alwoodley Lane.

A good time was had by all, especially those who returned to Leo's afterwards and cleared up the over-production of  hot dogs and chips that had been left by the Junior Rugby players.

Message from ALAN HUTCHINSON re LYKE WAKE RACE in July

We are planning to enter a team in the 2006 Lyke Wake Race this year. It has been many years since the Striders had teams participating and they used to win trophies. In 2005 our good friends in Chapel Allerton entered a team and not only won first team prize but first male and female prizes as well! We can't let them get away with it again this year!

Alan Hutchinson would be pleased to hear from all interested in taking part.  And also from anyone willing to help to support the runners with changes of shoes, energy drinks etc.   Below are a few key facts you may like to consider before inundating him with your responses

Web site
www.lykewakewalk.co.uk
Distance 42 miles (no it's not a relay - you run the lot)
Date Saturday 8 July 2006
Start time varies based on estimated running time per individual but between 4am and 10.30am.
Start Osmotherly
Finish Ravenscar
The route details of the Lyke Wake Walk route can be found on the internet but it is rugged moorland and tracks, it can be very boggy in one section about mid-way, there are 17 high points to ascend en route ranging between 550 and 1425 ft above sea level.
Check points there are 7 along the way with drinks at all and food at about the mid-way point.
Team to comprise 6 with at least one of opposite sex, with the combined times of the first 4 (one being of opposite sex) counting.
Entry date by end of April
Entry fee £10 each.

We plan to carry out reccying runs during the Spring on weekend dates to be arranged to suit which will help in getting to know the route and also putting in a number of long runs towards the training. A good race to help in the build up is the 23 mile off road Rombalds Stride on Saturday 4 February at 9am.
